How can l find old insurance companies

I have some old policys that we paid into years ago but the phone numbers are non existent. How can l find who has taken them over ?

    My first step would be to go to the Association of British Insurers website http://www.abi.org.uk/CompanyList/ and putting in the name of your old insurer. That sometimes works.

    Failing that usually just surfing the web using the name of your insurer in the search engine tends to work for me.

    Be prepared to spend hours being diverted from one office to the other - I find that you start in an Indian call centre, get cut off twice, given the wrong number three times, before finally speaking to someone who can help you.
