IVAs scare me. You need to be in work t o pay for them and they are not at all flexible. A DMP you can put your paymenst up if you can afford to at a later date. Or lower if you have to. A DMP can last for up to 10 years mine is. But knowing I can pay back what I owe one day makes life easier. I hope to start making extra payments towards my DMP (F and F) in the next few months.
When I speak to ppl I owe money to I just say we are with CCCS and we only do things in writing, to be honest I feel in a weird odd way smug, I dont have it you cant have it BUT I WILL EAT! No more of me scared stiff we cant meet a credit card bill or that there is not enough cash for food, peace of mind is priceless.
I too have kids and its hard having no money lol but I think we are by far better off on a DMP that we were getting more and more into a whole. We started our DMP in March, Jan and Feb we sent token payments, we used this time to save about £500 which we then used as a nest egg emergency money. When you have something to fall back on life is so much easier.
CCCS even allowed my kids pocket money within the budget.I know what you mean about the kids missing out tho its hard. I am not sure how we run up our debts as we have really never had much in the way of nice stuff or holidays, i think just day to day living had something to do with it. When you do you budget over estimate a little to give yourself some ley way, especially with regards to food costs.
Good luck.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0
