Microsoft Live OneCare does 3 PC's for around £16 a year. Brilliant piece of kit, also does defragging and auto updates, and you can watch the PC's in your circle of subscription for missing updates etc.
I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing! ;)

Or don't spend any money at all and get the same level of protection for free.

There are plenty of free products that will do the job very well. Check the sticky on the tech board or visit this site:

I agree, that there are very good free products out there, and I was a convert to them all, right up to when Vista came out and my new laptop wouldn't have had the full protection until they all made Vista versions.

So I decided to spend £30 on MSLO last year, and the renewal OEM this time only cost me £16.

This covers 3 PC's so we don't have to keep downloading and updating on 3 machines, and as I said it also does defragging, and Windows updates, along with a cleanup and a backup tool (optional), and the updated definintions etc are done centrally as a group.

I can really advocate it, as it really is a 'sit back and relax' piece of kit, much less work involved than the freebies such as AVG, etc.

Also it seems not to hog much in the way of system resources.

Free or pay; it depends on your knowledge of computers, and for the less than techy, I'd recommend this highly.

    Hi there

First post so be gentle. As far as almost free software goes I don't know if anyone has encountered Trialpay yet. I've been running Zonealarm Internet security suite from them for free for the last two years thanks to them.

You simply have to register with Trialpay (a site rather like Quidco) buy from or register with one of their affiliates (some of them are free) and TrialPay Pay you for the referal with the license code of the software you select.

    Here are the links

    https://www.trialpay.com

And for zonealarm internet security suite just click on the green link from the following page.

    http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

When you log in as a shopper to the trial pay website there are offers listed down the right hand side of the screen. If you keep pressing refresh you will slowly go through all the offers available. Alternatively you can search google for Trialpay and the software title, however this is a bit more random.

    Hope this Helps

Looks iffy, just use AVG (free) or buy an OEM from ebuyer or the like, very cheap just without a box

    Hi there

It may look iffy but it has been vouched for by internationally recognised sites such as CNet.com:T

    http://www.download.com/freesoftware/

Also Winzip have a direct link

    http://www.winzip.com/trialpay.htm

And although I appreciate it is a bit like quidco and may require an element of trust
for first time users, as I said in my first post I've been using it for two years now and have never had a problem.

For example, some of the offers are to join Love film for a free 1 month trial, so if you cancel within a month you get your software free.:D

Inkclub has free cartridges for new users just pay shipping = software for £2.99:D

I would recommend AVG any time, it updates everytime you switch your PC on and it caught (probably not the techy word) a virus just the other month. Best of all its free :)

As reccomended by others and myself, AVG Free edition version 8 gets my vote.

It is the latest version and can be downloaded off their official website here:

    http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe

AVG is one of the best in terms of virus protection as it has the smallest memory footprint and CPU usage of most antivirus programs. I also find that it is the least intrusive!
