Sole Occupier Discount

Options
Hi,
I've been living on my own since Jan 2007 and I've just found out about the Sole Occupier Council Tax Discount, can the discount be backdated?
Did anyone manage to backdate their discount? Any tips?
I'm struggling financially and that would help me alot.
Any other discounts I could benifit from?

Thanks in advance.

I managed to get my FIL's discount backdated when his wife was taken to a nursing home. It depends a great deal on the individual council. Do you have any proof that you were entitled to it from that date? Have a look at your Councils website.

In any event contact them ASAP.

Any other discounts/exemptions are: Student, Mentally incapable (a difficult one), benefit for low income, empty property, second home (some councils), adapted property?? Cant think of any more, maybe someone else can.

 This may get a better response on the council tax forum.

Have you rung your council tax department? You could say you didn't notice you didn't have the single occupancy discount for last year - can they refund or credit that to this years bill and obviously adjust this years bill.
