Need to find somewhere to live

Options
Hi
Well, things have finally come to a head and we have decided to go our separate ways. We have sold our house (STC) and the agent thinks we should be completing end of June/1st week in July.

I need to find somewhere for me and the three kids to live, but have never been in this position before. Please can someone point me in the right direction - should I be phoning the council and get on the housing register, should I be looking to rent privately???

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm not sure what to do first.

Thanks.

really....it's not hard to understand :T

Hi, I work for a local authority in the Housing service. Speak to your local council - they should offer you advice about all of your options and sign-post you to other agencies who may be able to help.
    Good luck.

Go to the housing association/council. As you will in effect be homeless soon they should be able to help. Just don't expect them to work miracles. lol

    Oh Suzy,
    (((((hug))))))
Well, welcome to singledom again...too bad you weren't closer, we could get together and commiserate over a glass (or 5) of wine.

As everyone has said, try the local Housing Association.
I hope you are coping ok, please pm me if you just want to talk.

Not entirely sure if thats 100% right as technically you have made yourself homeless not sure if you will def get help from them, but i am sure if you don't fit the criteria they can give you some advice where to go.

Thanks both for your advice. IA I have read somewhere about the council deciding whether I have become "intentionally homeless" but I'm not sure what this means. It was my choice to sell the house (well, needed to because we couldn't afford the repayments and 2nd mortgage secured on it) but I thought we were going to rent somewhere based on our joint incomes. However, I'm not sure I could now afford to rent with just my salary as I would need a 3 bed place.
