When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.
Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.
Good morning everyone, the weather here today is cold and raining:rolleyes: Now I know I am back in the UK after two weeks of sunny skies in Malta:D
Thankyou to Andan, Klane, Cleosmum and anyone who helped keep the thread going while I was away:T :T .
I now need to get back into my dfw ways so today I will be:
Hi to all the regular posters and hi and welcome to any newbies:hello: :hello: :hello:
and a belated Happy Birthday to Andan :bdaycake: congratulations on sorting out the course:T.

Jak, i'm glad the baby is all ok and everything is on track!
Klane, have you sorted out your dilema yet? The way i look at it is its only going to happen once and if you really want to go, then do it the way you already are, by doing it as cheap as you can. Inbetween all the dfwing its important to have a life! Best of luck with it all.:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

It was another 3am finish for me this morning, I have now sewn on all the feathers to the costume and it is standing dramatically in the middle of the lounge on my dummy, so today I'm a tired little bunny.
As for DFW things I'm doing/done today I will
· Charge my phone in work
· Eat out of my desk food store (needs topping up so will do that at the weekend in the big shop)
· Not brought wallet – so no spending
· Going home to bed after work – so no spending (saves on electric to as no lights and TV etc)
Need to collect my new glasses from Specsavers today (got their BOGOF offer) paid for them last weekend so not a big deal today.
I need to get some stuff on eBay so will have to make some time this weekend to do it although I'm performing all weekend so will have to be quick.
Keep it up guys….0 -
Didn't get round to listing stuff on Ebay yesterday, quite glad as I didn't know about the half price day tomorrow! So will hang fire for that!
Also today, I have made an agreement to make a full and final payment on a debt that has crept up on me, debt was for £1031 and they've agreed to take £825! I'm going to try and get it down to £800 when I call to pay though
Sex and the City day today - eek. 8 girls from the office - I've planned it so I'm making sure we go somewhere where Manchesterconfidential.com are offering 2 for 1 main courses for our food beforehand. Cinema ticket is already paid for - going to AMC rather than Odeon to save £1 (would have done Orange Wednesdays but was scared it would sell out!)
Listen to 30 tracks on Slicethepie.com on my lunch hour.
Quidco question - do you actually have to buy things with the merchants or are there any where you can earn cash just for clickthroughs? My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.0 -

What ARE you making?I think you should post a photo of it! I wish I had sewing skills. If it's not too nosy.. what/where do you perform? Band? Theatre? Around a pole?
Sounds far more fun than being sat at a desk!!

Hello Andan and everyone,Hi Sophiesmum, glad you had a great hol!
Today I have:
Been to Lidl for a few grocery items (from budget)
Been to Tesco (ditto)
I am so hard up - end of month blues. My wages don't go in until the 2nd cos of Bank Hol - how unfair.
Checked rightmove for rental properties - really chuffed cos about 4 potentials have changed 'no pets' to 'pets considered' - rentals don't seem to be shifting round here. Really excited!! Should be exchanging contracts soon!! ( I have 2 border collies, a cockatiel and a rabbit)
And I will:
Hear back from solicitor with exciting news (hopefully!)
Clean House
Cook dinner using items bought earlier. Grocery budget very low this week.
Take dogs out if it ever stops raining.
Love to everyone - when is baby due, Jak? - sorry - just noticed your sig - 16th July!! Not long!!!

:hello:
Nice to have you back Sophiesmum!
Thanks Andan, I'm strongly leaning towards going unless flights are ridiculous. I think it will be such good fun, which I could also do with and there's other beneficial aspects to it as well. I'm excited already and it's not booked yet! Is great news about your course too. And having FOUR MS's this morning -blimey.
Jak - not too long left now!Glad everything's ok.
DFW bits:
- did piggy click, almost up to a fiver now.
- keep meaing to sign up to MyLotto24 on quidco, so might manage to do that today
- will be good and take photos of things to eBay tonight, so I can list them faster tomorrow night for half-price listing day.
- checked online banking - had 2 MS companies pay today (GB and TNS, had GfK already, so RE and GR to go)
- stayed motivated on here!
- possibly taken an extra MS job to help company out on Saturday
- checked for other MS jobs, but bit slim on the ground at the moment (pity, been on a roll this month!)
- will list some more books on Greenmetropolis later. Anyone list books on Amazon / elsewhere they recommend? What's the pricing structure/fees at Amazon, if anyone knows?
- will fill in a MS report later, or two.
- as OH goes away for a few days later this week, did minimum shop couple days ago, so will endeavour not to buy any groceries til he gets back, will live off stuff in cupboard/freezer. Should be interesting!
- Brought lunch to work from home
- Declined buying posh coffee, made free tea in the office instead
- Have a real thing about house/decorating magazines since we moved house (would consider interiors as alternative career, like it so much) and have spent small fortune on mags in recent months. Had cut down, but now going to use Tesco vouchers to get a subscription to one, and resolve not to buy anymore.
- being super productive at work as well, which isn't very DFW (though it keeps me employed haha) but is good for the soul!Debt - Loan: £1150 C/C: £4763 @ 0%.0
