PS. Also check and fill in the document's "properties". I've heard of some people checking those to see if the applicant wrote the CV themselves.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

RTFs are lame and very 90s
:rotfl:Sorry but that made me laugh. :p What's lame about RTF? Whether it's "90s" or not (what an odd way to describe a document format!), it's still openable on a wider range of word processing software packages than DOC and looks exactly the same. What's the harm in making your cv as accessible as possible?
  • Most commonly, agencies will want to plonk their letterhead on your CV and send it on otherwise intact (but anonymous in the most part), this is why they want docs not pdfs.
  • Yep, it’s true that many recruitment agencies want a word version so they can place their letterhead on it. I would say that as a general rule of business though, it is a very bad idea to send out any finished document in anything other than PDF, as without PDF you have no control over the final presentation, there is a risk somewhere along the line it could be edited accidently or maliciously and finally you may leave hidden information in the file format itself. PDF is the most sensible and professional, but many recruitment agencies and indeed business people are technological laggards!

A final aside, DOCX is still not widely used as a standard (unlike PDF), so you are really pushing your luck if you send a CV in this format.

I've never even heard of sending CVs as a PDF file!

Send the CV as a word document, I would never send it as a PDF because not everyone has the technology to download them. If you don't want it to be accidentally amended then send it as a read only attachment.
