the Baliffs are Coming.

due to a combination of bad luck (my hubby being out of work a few years back and us not completely catching up on things) and bad planning we had a liability order for some old council tax money (clsoe to £2000). Though we were paying it back -bit by bit around £20 a month. The council felt this was not enough and sent the baliffs round.

We did go back to the council offices to plead but to no avail.

Now,we live in rented, fully furnished accommodation- so we don't actually own much. Our TV is from a charity shop, our DVD player is tesco value, and that's about it. A few CDs, a few books, an old, second hand computer and my son's 3 guitars that he's bought himself with pocket money etc.

The council has said it would be, in our case, in our best interests to let the baliffs in as they'd see we have nothing, but all I've read online seems to point to us NOT letting them in. So I'm confuddled.

If we do let them in does anyone know what we can expect? What will they take? Can they look in my purse and take my houeskeeping? Will they take everything? I'm gettnig stressed. We've spoken to the Baliffs on the phone and they want the whole lot within 2 months.

Anyone been through this? Can offer help? Anything?

    I also have some baliff problem. I had a property to rent last year and the tenants did not pay any council tax and since they have gone I been getting letters from baliffs saying i owe over £510.

    Went through the process of saying I was not living there to no avail. I arranged to pay monthly but missed last months payment now there demanding full payment by tomorrow. The figure is the same from last year £510 and not including the money I have paid (£210). I have been contacting them for a statement showing a breakdown of the outstanding balance but all they keep saying money by tomorrow we have nothing further to add.

    Whats my rights in this situation can I request the information by law? I really want to the shut this guy up.

    Never, ever, ever, ever let the bailiffs in, once they have ganed 'peaceful entry' into your home they are allowed to come back any time and break in.

    If you have not ever allowed a bailiff into the home then please DO NOT let them in.

    The part about defaulting is that this is a common tactic of many bailiff companies. If you have "defaulted" ask the bailiff company IN WRITING where this is stated.

    By LAW the bailiff co have to provide you a breakdown of fees and charges. You request is called a Subject Access Request and a template letter is on our website. I have sent you a message with a password to download the letter.

    The baliff company is equita. They dropped the letter to my house last week saying I need to make payment within 24 hours. They have not been to my house or signed anything.

    I rang the main office asking for a break down of all the charges they kept saying we have no information to provide and that I need to contact the baliff who left the letter at my house. I have tried ringing this person he does not answer his phone just sends text messages saying the balance needs to be paid by today (friday)

    I have the money I can make the payment thats not the problem I want to pay what I owe.

    I am very confused. In the letting agreement, who was liable for the council tax, you or the tenants?

    And whose name was on the council tax bill?

    You need to pm Herbie21 from here or e-mail her on the bailiffadviceline web-site with the name of the bailiff and the company name. She can check whether this person is legally entitled to chase for the money.

    By what you have written, the bailiff is entitled to receive fees of just £24.50. This is according to the statutory fee scale and is for making a visit to your premises to "levying distress" but where no levy was made.

    If he argues that he has visited twice, then the fees will increase by an additional £18.

    NOTHING MORE SHOULD BE CHARGED. !!!. If you have any queries please do let me know.

    Received letter from EQUITA with a 7day Removal Notice for an council tax bill from a flat i lived in 3 years ago.

    What i need to know is were i am now is my partners flat and all is in her name with the council.

    I stay with her and we are not married and i am not on the electrol roll were i am.

    Do EQUITA have any rights to remove goods when nothing in the premises belongs to me and the rent book is in here name with council.

    Please advise as got 4 days left
