Wescot pursuing settled debt

My OH has recently got his credit file and there are 2 defaults for the same debt. It was in relation to a vodafone account (default 1) and was passed to Fredrickson International. This debt was paid by DD to Fredrickson and settled in Dec 2006. Some weeks ago he gets his 1st letter from Wescot demanding payment(default 2). According to the report Wescot took over and issued a default on this, he received no correspondence that Wescot had the debt at any time and as I said was settled with Fredrickson. After many letters and copies of bank statements being sent I finally got Wescot to look into things but they said it will take 7 weeks (that was 9 weeks ago).
He now gets his report to to find that Vodafone was never marked as settled and a default by Wescot made in Oct 2006 (he never looked at his report b4 now!)
How do we go about getting the vodafone account marked as settled (as he no longer has knows the account number) and the Wescot default taken off his report completely?
Obviously Fredrickson never passed on that this account was settled!!!
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would write to wescott advising them that the account was settled in 2006 and that the information they have put on his credit report is incorrect. If they refuse to remoce the default, i would take the matter up with the ICO (Information Commessioners Office). After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Thanks georgeuk.
How does he deal with getting the vodafone debt marked as settled? He no longer has any account information. Does that mean he can't? Or will Wescot contact vodafone and inform them of its settlement?Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0 -
It's all a little confusing i'm afraid, so i'm just going to jabber on and hope you follow my line of thinking.
I think to get the account marked as settled, you will need to contact Fredrickson International and request a letter stating that the debt was settled. If they do not comply, then you could so a Subject Access Request (SAR) which they legally need to respond to within 40 days. This would cost £10 so i'd try a letter first but the SAR sould provide all information they hold on you (for the last 6 years). This should also include any account transactions so you will be able to show that the account was settled.
Right, stopping for a question. When you say the account was settled, was it paid off in full or was an agreement reached with regards payment? If it was an agreement, did you receive a letter stating "full and final settlement"?
And, we're off again. When you get a reply from Fredrickson, you should then contact Wescot informing them that the information they have placed on his credit file is incorrect, enclosing proof that the debt was settled and insisting that the default be removed.
If you don't hear anything from Wescot within 2 weeks, I'd also send a copy of that letter, with the proof from Fredrickson, to all 3 Credit Reference Agencies. They should hopefully see that you have been dealing with a bunch of numpties and make the necessary adjustments.

Hi Georgeuk
It was paid off in installments by DD the final payment was made by cheque as was only for £7. A few weeks later received a letter from fredrickson saying the account was still owing so we rang up and they confirmed over the phone that it was settled but we did not get any settlement letter stating so.
Thanks for your help by the way, its very much appreciated.Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0 -
Does your OH remeber his phone number from that account?
Just wondering if you could get the account reference from vodafone, even if he's unsure of the number the address may suffice.
I've just got my credit file, and one entry states that I lived in another county - one that I've never even been to!
The same company also lists an account I DO have with them, which is correct.
So I'll wish you the best, and go off and try and sort my mess out:think: :silenced:0
