Incorrect Electoral role information..

Hi, I recently ordered a copy of my credit report from experian and equifax, everything was correct except for the date when I moved in to my current address, its almost 2 years late.

I moved in on december 2000 but its showing as october 2002, When I applied for bank accts and credit cards (2 times to be exact) I had stated I had lived in current address for 4 and a half years but according to this its half that so its probably affecting my chances of getting credit too!.

I phoned up my local council and the man told me that he cannot change any information in the electoral role and that I would have to get the credit reference agencies to add a note saying this date is incorrect, so basically I just wanted MSE's advice on whether this is really the case (to be honest I felt like he was just trying to pass the problem on), I mean if I can get the date changed it would probably be a better option.

Thank you very much :)

What can I do if I believe there is Electoral Roll information, which is registered incorrectly?

If you have registered to vote and your Credit File does not show this, or there is some other inaccuracy, please let us know using our Notice of Dispute service. You can complete an on-line form or download a form from our Website by following the Dispute links.

If you wish to register to vote, or check if you are already registered, please contact your local Electoral Registration Office.
This is from Equifax website. I think the same applies to Experian.
