Question re double entry on credit file

Hi,
I recently obtained my experian credit file and a debt that I had with one company that was later sold to another for debt collection (I'm paying reduced monthly amounts) is showing as outstanding with both the original and the new company. Is this right? If not, how do I get it amended?
