Thought id share with you my recipe for making Fairy cakes cheaper!
Basically the golden syrup replaces the eggs and caster sugar....
saving money, dont know eactly how much it saves tho lol
I would think loosing the eggs would be at least 20p.
you will need:
4 oz (125g) margarine
2 TBSP Golden syrup
4 oz S.R FLOUR
2 TBSP of milk
1 teaspoon baking powder
preheat oven to 190c (375f) GAS 5
1. cream golden syrup and margarine together
2. sift in flour and baking powder and stir
3. stir in milk and if stiff add some drops of water untill loose.
4. spoon into paper cases
5. bake for approx 10 mins
we usually decorate them with icing sugar and then with sweeties (Not special decorations as they cost too much)

What do eggs do to the mixture then if you can get away without using them?0

You can substitue a tablespoon of vinegar if you have no eggs! Strange but true...I Believe in saving money!!!:T

EGGS HOLD ALL THE MIXTURE TOGETHER.
when i bake with out eggs in any dessert I always replace with Golden syrup as it acts in the same way and stops the cake breaking up.
As a rule i use one tablespoon of golden syrup = 1 egg.0 -

I'm definitely going to give this a go. I usually use commercial egg replacer powder in baking, but I don't make cakes often because I've never been 100% satisfied with the results.
Thanks for posting. I'm looking forward to trying your recipeSealed Pot Challenge 5 - #1742 :j0 -
Your welcome bluemoon, another good one is making eggless pancakes.
Basically again swap the eggs for golden syrup and you get lovely pancakes.
I discovered this method whilst trying to invent methods for my son to eat like the rest of us, the results were so impressive I am glad to get the word out there as i know how difficult it can be !0
