Where abouts is your sister based Keren? Im currently living in Oxford but will soon be moving to Tamworth.

She is in Cambridgeshire, she's only just moved into the job after being a volunteer herself I'm not 100% sure of her patch, but her name is Debbie if you end up doing anything for that charity. She's lovely:D .

    Hello again mac,
I have the same problem with virgin credit card, everyone else wants me to have a card except virgin, well their loss, I'll just have to move my debt to another 0% card lol

    Hi Sparky,

Did you apply for 0% credit cards soon after you were rejected by virgin?

My crdit report on equifax is fine so was wondering if applying for a new card so soon after would affect my credit score?

    Mac :-)

Can I just make clear that it would be idiotic to refuse a job because it pays more than £15k - but I believe the OP is doing this anyway. Student loans are taxed at 9% over £15k. For example if you were earning £14k, you would be taking home about £11.4k with nothing being paid off your loan. If you were earning 16k, you would be taking home about £12.5k with £90 a year coming off your student loan.

I think you also OP needs to be brutally honest about their SOA. Look at what you have been spending, not what you would like to be spending. Go through statements if necessary, as you currently have nothing for, particularly, entertainment, clothing and food (Not sure how you've angled a £300 pcm all inc, presumably family somewhere, but what about lunches etc.?).

Look at what you have been spending (you must have been going over to get so much into debt), then look at what needs to be cut.

Your absolutely right Stevey, my SOA isn't a true reflection of what Im spending at present. I'm going to keep a spending diary for June so that I can see exactly where my money is going. Once I've finished this post I will also need to look at bank statements to check expenses from previous months. I will then be able to post an SOA that details any expenses that I have missed.

I'm taking home 12k a year after tax so I don't think I will be paying off any of my student loan just yet. In Regards to rent, one of my colleagues has kindly rented me a room for £270. This includes all bills and food and is much closer to where I work. fuel should cost me around £70 a month and my intention is to take lunch to work every day.

Im an alopecian so I dont have to worry about haircut costs  Hopefully I can keep the cost of clothing and entertainment down for the next few months but these will obviously need to be included in my next SOA.

Bit of a daft question but what do you mean by OP?

    Thanks
    Mac

OP = Original Poster, ie, you!

Sounds as though it is a good deal with the colleague - make sure you are both completely agreed that it is £270 inc food, bills etc. Its quite strange to offer someone food as well so make sure they don't just mean the odd meal when they are cooking, as opposed to a free run on whatever is in the house.

    Dear Diary,

Its time to monitor my spending on a daily basis to see just where all my money is going. I was paid on Monday 26th May which was a pleasent suprise :-)

    My weeks spending so far:

    Monday - nothing spent :-)
Tuesday - £8 buffet at Pizza Hut, couldn't resist!
    Wednesday - £0
Thursday - so far £20 fuel and 20p on a coffee.

I have also managed to re open a barclaycard that was closed a few years ago. Hopefully I will be able to transfer the balance of my IF credit card debt over to a more manageable interest rate of 6.9%. Still unsure about applying for a new 0% card as I was rejected by Virgin about 6 weeks ago.

Started matched betting again yesterday with an offer from bet-at-home that I couldn't resist. I should be able to extract at least £80 from the free bet so a good start to raising addtionial £££'s to chip away at my debt.

I wiill be back later to report any further spending (hopefully nothing) and will have a look at what clutter i've got to flog on ebay.

    bye for now :-)

Nothing to report this evening spending wise. Very tempted to join the June make £10 a day challenge as I have a few things going on ebay in the next few days :-)

Does anyone know where I can find a list of credit cards with the name of the banks associated with them? I'm sure I stumbled across it a few days ago on MSE but I cant seem to find it anywhere now.

    Back again,

Trying to keep this thread updated on a regular basis to keep me motivated :-)

My first week as a DFW went pretty well, managed to keep last weeks spending down to a minimum. Started my first month on the make £10 a day challenge which is tough going but enjoying the challenge. I have lots unwanted gifts going on to ebay, amazon this week so hopefully I'll have some extra cash to clear my debts.

    Mac :-)

Hi there Mac... Just a suggestion but why don't you find out about getting an 8k loan out.. this will consolidate your debts into one place. That way yes you will still be in debt but you will have ONE monthly payment from one place instead of trying to think of all the places your debts are. Try and find one that allows you to pay extra with no penalties too. it sounds like you have too many debts in too many places where with one monthly payment you would know what you were doing and what was coming out of where.... so you avoid credit card charges etc. It's better to just have one bank account. I know i sound like i'm preaching here but i had a lot of debt and i consolidated it into one monthly payment and i have one bank account and now my finances are much healthier and i know what is coming out of where plus i have not been lumped with any bank charges!! hope this helps you... it helped me anyway! good luck!!
