    AND JUST TO ADD............
The new bags that cost 10p are part of the fundraising for our charity of the year, this year being childline\help the aged. Theres odd bits and bobs going on instore to raise money but the bags are a massive chunk of the money they get, last years charity was asthma uk who got somewere in the region of £1.2 million, so they may cost a bit but charities will benefit!

Are all the proceeds forwarded to the charity or just the 'profit'? I suspect the later - which means, as others have rightly pointed out, that the supermarket is actually benefiting from this "environmental" policy.

At the end of the day the whole thing is a massive scam is place all the emphasis on the consumer and completely ignoring the massive amount of waste that the directly attributable to the packaging chosen by the supermarkets.

I too use plastic bags for my bin as they fit perfectly. I too will have to start buying plastic bin bags for it now.

I'm the same I use the carrier bags for bin liners, and as we're now going to have to buy bin liners to use instead, it is'nt going to cut down on plastic bags is it.

It has nothing to do with being "green". it is another stealth tax on food playing upon peoples conscience "to protect the environment".

the savings made by the greedy supermarkets are not being passed to shoppers.

why not reduce food prices if shoppers provide their own bags?

before the green lobby whinges - it is perfectly easy to make and supply biodegradable bags.

where does this end? will we be charged for the tins, labels, and stickers on food containers?
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

I am in total agreement that something needs to be done regarding plastic bags....however I feel the supermarkets have jumped onto the "green" bandwagon and are once again hitting the pockets of their customers. Brown paper bags should be made available, free, to shoppers....if you choose to refuse these then either pay for a plastic bag and donate to charity or bring your own bags. I am sick to death of being dictated to with people taking the morale high ground...supermarkets and their suppliers need to address the volume of packaging surrounding the products we buy, it might have been nice if they had made inroads to improve this area before hitting the shopper once again!
Online shopping for me now...with a nice hunky van driver putting my shopping on the kitchen table (no bags)....cheaper too because i am not distracted and actually stick to a shopping list

I guess with the shops removing the bags then it removes the need for customers taking a bag for 1 item which doesnt need a bag,

When I go shopping I usually re-use plastic carrier bags, and stick 3 or 4 in my pockets. Are there any non-plastic ones that will fold down to a similar size? Most of the reusable ones I've seen are really bulky.

My local Asda have started 'hiding' the carrier bags. The cashier will give you a few even if your trolley is full and then you have to keep asking for one more and one more and one more........its embarrassing!

Its either that or the cashier decides to pack all the shopping.....yes you guessed it.....all the milk and bread in one carrier!!!! Aaaarrrrggghhh!

I too reuse my carriers at home, so please someone make it stop!!!!!
