Monday 26/05/2008. What small DFW things will you do today????

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.
Mornng everyone and hello to any new posters!

Unfortunately the weather is horrendous here today and is likely to be the same in London so my day out has been postponed:mad: Don't fancy going out for the day just to spend it soaking wet, even if i really wanted to go, so a bit dissapointed, but have rearranged it for next weekend.

My dfw things for today:
-Have saved money not going on my trip
-Must pay car tax today
-Look for mystery shops
-Upload scanners
-Reschedule mystery shop
-Check emails
-List things back on amazon

-Look for beauty things to buy from ebay
-Put clothes away that i ironed yesterday
-Tidy bedroom
-Look for more counselling courses
-Look for courses that may benefit my counselling course
-Store cupboard meals today and cook a roast for tea for my b day, would get the fella to cook it but he's gone vegetarian so doesn't quite seem right!
-Do any surveys i receive
-Send email to woman regarding job
-Email counsellors re providing me with a reference
-Email voluntary place re voluntary work
-Look on website re business advice
-Check out brochures and leaflets and continue work on them.

I will also make time to sit down and chill today and watch one of my fave dvds. Have a great day everyone and enjoy whats left of the bank holiday.

  • Morning all! Horrid day... but a quite DFW weekend for me so far!
I have been sharing the virtues of a frugal lifestyle with some friends and they all seemed really interested - I think it's the credit crunch coupled with ethical/eco trends that's making people think about what they spend, so am spreading the message far and wide!
    DFW wise;
    • driven at 65 on our long trip and saved lots on petrol that way
    • used a 10gbp M&S voucher from pigsback to buy a pressie for OH's nephew instead of cash
    • only spent 5gbp all weekend - nsd today hibernating from rain watching cricket (how come it's not raining in manchester?!)
    • checked internet banking and I have enough for tomorrow's 2 direct debits, payday on thursday - this seems to have been a loooong month! I still have a bit of cash left but I enjoy the big pay-off of debt on payday!
    And I will
    • meal plan
    • have a browse around and see if there are any top tips on the board
    • chat to my spinach and tommy plants and persuade them to grow!

Happy birthday Andan. Sounds like a busy one!

    Today I will have:
-Checked internet banking- all the same as yesterday!
    -done jobs around the house
-Fixed hoover as wasn't picking up- on it's way out for sure but will do for a bit longer I hope!
-work an extra shift at work @ double time! Wooo Hooo!
-made scones for breakfast rather than buying bread as had ingredients in.
-have a NSD as it's pouring down with rain!
-make a yummy dinner for dh with stuff from store cupboard- i'm eating at work for free!
-will sort out washing to put away and hang out washing to dry on airers.

I've got to say, this month has felt like a long month to me too. I've a tiny bit of money left but as Claire says, i'd rather put it towaards my debt than spend it on rubbish!

Today, I sold my concert tickets on ebay.

I was going to a concert next week, and figured that after petrol, parking charges etc.. it would`ve been an expensive night out.

So now I`m £70 up and feel alot better for not going. Thats £70 off one of my CC and it feels good !!

Well, it is tipping down here, so a change of plans (was going to walk into town for a drink with hubby).... instead
    • Went to Mr T's with mum to buy weekly food (Mum paid :T, and I picked up some stripey food)
    • Cashed in a scratchcard and put the money in my sealed pot (£2 + £2 which I would have spent on 'stuff' and a drink in town)
    • Am going to sit down and plan meals for the week (including lunches at work)
    • Try to have a NSD
    • Do daily clicks
    • Chill for the week ahead
    • Fill in comps in magazines while watching a film on the TV
Think that is about it for now - Take care everyone

    Today I am:

    Having an NSD
    Uploading my scanning
Going through the last three bank statements to see where we are spending so much money
Getting free Dominoes Pizza delivered for tea :T
Making some HM biscuits and treats

I forgot to add that I''ve called NTL and shaved £10 per month from my bill. They wouldn't let me have a free V+ box though
  • Place some items on eBay.
Make batches of food for work lunches for the week.
Read the boards for new ideas.
