No it's more a case of "What have you entered in village shows?"

I haven't yet but i was begged this year to enter some decorated cakes into a local village show. When i say "begged" it was not because i am a fabulous decorator - oh no, it was more they just wanted to get SOME entrants.

I was too embarrassed incase mine were really !!!!!! in comparrison. Anyway i viewed the competition and feel i am up to the standard so next year it's decorated cakes, jam, flower arranging and some of my cross-stitches (just for display purposes) OUr village show offers you £5 Boots voucher woohoo!

I've been going to friends house's and noseing in their fridges for nearly empty jars.... ('twas a very good friend!!!) but sadly no results.
I'm too embarrassed by my jam obsession to ask at school :o (tried the neighbours with no results)!

Sooo, in the end I am buying items we would eat anyway in glass jars and encouraging the kids to eat more jam; can't make it too obviuos as OH takes the micky as well!!! :D
I'm on a course: chestnut season coming soon. Gotta be ready with my jars!

next year should be easier as I will have rebuilt my stock

  • Well done.

You could use the 50p in postage to send me a sample. I'm a big jam lover :)

You should have been in my kitchen 10 mins ago then when I was riflng through the various half-used jars in the fridge and checking the use by dates! Dare I admit to having some stuff in there almost 2 years out of date!!! ... and some that say use within 2-3 weeks of opening that have been in there months LOL! :o

There's a jar of cranberry sauce though that is over a year out of date (Apr 2004) but has only had a spoonful taken out and still looks and smells perfect! ... should I risk using it, and what in, as it seems a shame to throw it out. Doubt it would keep till xmas though, especially as I've opened it again today :rotfl:

Just keep your jam/honey/gerkhins/olives glass jars (with metal lids not plastic) wash them and sterilize them (boiling water + drying in coolish oven).

Keep away from the pasta sauce/curry jars... the smell lingers!
