Birdstill - fair comments - however, 1080p with a sony ps3 and blue ray movies is fab! Also, the resolution when connecting a PC gives nearly 2x the resolution. (1900 on 1080p compared with 1024 on the other ). Wether the extra £200 or so is worth it is buyers choice - it was for me!

    Hi Angela _stone

just print this 2 pages (link below) and present it to JL sales when you buy it, you can just pay their inhouse price of 899, and fill a price match form.

Their undersales team will send someone to physicly check the price(which is on the second link below, at their registered office, they have a retail outlet there)

I bought it on a Thursday evening, around noon time the next day, a lady called me and told me that they have done the price check, and will refund it to my credit card, that is quick, huh?

    tightus_ward,

I agree with you that yours is FULL HD version, mine is not. But firstly I think John Lewis guarantee is better, within 5 years, it is much more likely that JL will be around, and I think they provide better service than empire direct, just a thought. Secondly, within the next 5 years, how many FULL HD movies will be out there? My living room is 4.3 metres wide, personally I do not think I can tell much difference now. By the time I can tell the difference, new models will be around, possible cheaper. and I might get a bigger screen:)

Is the price match only in store?

fair point, really down to your requirement.

    I also did ps3, also fab:D

seriously though, I think 1080p only shows difference when it is bigger than 50, or if you are really really close to the screen.

please note - i'm on about the TH42PZ80 not the PX - one is 1080p - the other not. Did try it myself - collecting the screen on Wednesday from sunny Bolton. I got £90 off.

We saw a TV in Empire Direct in Bolton last year, but we shopped around and saw the same one in Currys for far more. If you tell the staff in Currys what you have seen, they will price match and give you 10% of the difference as well. The staff sometimes try to get out of this by saying that Empire Direct don't actually have any in stock. We then called Empire Direct to check, they did so Currys price matched. But we didn't get extra guarantee.

No they don't offer the 5yr guarantee.

Dixons is also the last place that I would consider spending this amount of money on. I think all of the DSG group are woeful when it comes to customer service.

JL pricematched Sound & Vision for me on the PX80 42inch and it is superb especially with the 5yr guarantee

got my tv and thought I'd post a follow up...(I had a 37" tosh LCD prior to getting the plasma - 3 years old screen).

Pros... Great screen size (42"), good blacks, good standard defi. picture. FANTASTIC HD picture (1080i and 1080p).

Cons... Whites not as bright as my 37" LCD.
I think it uses more electricity - however, you can turn it off completely easily (my tosh had to be powered off from the plug socket otherwise it was on standby).

Overall - thought it would be night and day better than the LCD - it isn't.
Better, but not by the amount I thought it would be after reading all the reviews.

If you aren't bothered about 1080p then Birdstill is correct - it is prob. a better deal to get the non 1080p PX80 at about £620. Hope this helps someone!

Does the Panny 1080p 42" screen not burn 500w of leccy?

Might be worth while factoring that into your "double the resolution" equation!

Thanks for this. I'm trying to decide between a Samsung 37" LCD (£500) and the Panasonic PX80. Not bothered about 1080p as will be using standard definition.
