Brompton

I give in. I've finally agreed that a Brompton is the cheapest folding bike because if you buy another then you end up paying the price of that bike plus the price of a Brompton.
So next question...where's the cheapest place to buy one? I don't want to buy a stolen one so no suggestions of Brick Lane or similar please - I could do without bad bike karma.
[PS I posted this on fool.co.uk too. Sorry to those that use both forums]

I take it that no one knows of anywhere. That's what I feared.0

Sorry, no idea.
But you can do a search on Google, Kelkoo, pricerunner...... the list goes on...0 -
I couldn't afford a Brompton, so I bought a Dahon speed 7 for £275 last year. I'm 17 stone and ride the bike several times a week for distances up to 8 miles and haven't had any mechanical difficulties at all.
It's not as light as a Brompton, but folds up easily and you can save a couple of kilos by removing the mudguards, carrier, reflectors, back brake etc.0 -
Was looking for a brompton a while ago and the prices are pretty much the same everywhere.
ended up buying a ridgeback foldup which does my 6 mile each way commute fine. it doesnt fold up as small as a brompton as it has bigger wheels, but that does mean you go pretty quick.
bought mine off gumtree, where there are genuine sellers. check the sellers phone number in google and you'll see how many bikes/adverts they have for sale!0 -

I take it on and off a train so the folding size and weight are both very important to me.0 -

I'd splash out on a Brompton & live with the costs. You can get close to halfing the costs if you work in a place that has a cycle to work scheme.
I have had a brompton for two years & really rate it. I tried buying some cheap alternatives before finally buying the brompton. Sometimes when you buy something you instantly know it will do its job, well & you will enjoy using it.
Its made in Britain too!0
