International SMS - Help Please

Hey,
I am new to this site, and have came here for help and advise.
My friend reacently moved abroad on a temporary basis, to Cyprus from the UK.
And ofcourse, to keep in touch is expensive when it comes to SMS.
My contract last month came to over £60!
I have been searching all over the internet for a good, proffesional and cheap international sms service.
I have tried using Vype, which i found on this site, but did not work for me:(
However, i have found this site, which could save me alot of money, but before i sign up - any advice/help/thoughts/suggestions would be fantastic!
