Hi
Just wondered if anyone had applied or was an open university associate lecturer? Som eof the posts are for 7 hours teaching from home - mainly online forums and marking work.
I will complete my degree this year with open university and was considering applying for a short course or an openings course.
Any experience of this out there?

I would be interested in this too but I was wondering do you need a teacher qualification to be able to do this?

Hi
I think it depends on the course you want to teach.
There is a generic person spec and then a specialised person spec.
For the course I was thinking on doing, it just says you need a nurse qualification and a degree in the subject. The courses I was thinking of were the ones with no face to face tutorials - the openings courses. There are no vacancies as yet, but they will take applications and keep them on file. So, I have downloaded the application form and in the process of filling it out.
Pay is quite good, you can get around £400 per month for 9 months duration for 7 hours work a week.
I love open university and would love to continue with them as a tutor once I gain my degree.

I have just qualified as a teacher and would love to get some extra work over the next few months. I have applied for a proof reader job and I do a bit of tutoring but this sounds great. I will have a go and let you know what happens.0

Congratulations on becoming a teacher.
Yes, it would be great to know how you get on. I am taking my time with my application as I want it to be just right and not a rushed affair.
There are quite a few vacancies.

Ok the deed is done, I have applied for 5 different courses all of which I have previously done with the OU. I meet to generic and person specification for all of them (some are a bit loose!! - but we shall see)Annie

It is quite a lengthy process and I have only applied for education ones, I will take a closer look at the rest when I get a bit more time. It could be that there are several courses for which you do not need to arrange tutorials for and so I guess you dont have to live in the area you go for.
Good luck0 -
Well done and good luck Let us know how you get on.
The openings courses (Y) don't have tutorials but have fortnightly telephone calls, so those would be good as a starting point, shame there are no vacancies yet.
I have signed up to the mailing list for vacancies and at least have the application form filled out, you can use the same form for each job you apply for, which is handy.
I got some advice from my tutor too, I have never filled in a tutor job application form, always nursing. So, trying not to concentrate on nursing things and find experience in teaching etc is hard. I volunteer at a school, so thats one experience, but it is with 7 year olds. I am also a NVQ assessor, so I am hoping these help.
Good luck again.

topCourses with vacancies- Exploring sport online (Y164)
- Learning to change *New* (Y165)
- Starting with law *New* (Y166)
- Starting with maths (Y162)
- Starting with psychology (Y163)
I have applied for the Y162 - starting with maths because I have my GCSE and my teaching degree and I use and teach maths daily - I'm hoping this should be enough to secure a post. Shame there is nothing for the summer really as that would be best for me - but hey, beggars can't be choosers as they say!0
