Mortgage - legal fees

About to remortgage my house (value 250k) - can anyone tell me what the approx legal fee would be? If it consists of a few components, please could you break this down.

Currently friend (he is an IFA) who suggests a firm he uses for conveyancing. They have quoted £495 inc vat.

    Hi, that seems a lot! If you're not taking a deal that includes free legals then it depends on the size of the remortgage rather than property value but on an average remortgage about £300 inc vat and disbursements. Is it a leasehold property, located in Scotland or is a party being added/removed?

    Hi - mortgage amount is £178k. It is a freehold in England. No parties are being added or removed. Straightforward remortgage from one firm to another.
