Cash for scrap catalytic converters / car batteries?

Hi,
I have a couple of old car batteries and a catalytic converter in the back of my garage that I need to get rid of. Rather than taking them to the local council recycling centre, what is the chance of getting some money for them from a scrap metal dealer? Given the current high prices of lead and platinum (and all the subsequent metal thefts!) how much do you think I should get?
