  • We have buffalo stalls at leeds too - not too fussed butI love the ostrich stalls - the fillets are lovely
  • We're lucky we have a great butcher that is cheaper than buying non value meat from the supermarket. I also get organic vegetable boxes because our local greengrocers are pretty poor. The mini box is £7.50 and will last the week for two of us.

  • This time of year is great for market stall bargains. We were in Whitechapel on Tuesday (Royal London Hosp. for DH's bone marrow results - he does not have to have chemo after all:j:j:j) and every other stall was selling whole boxes of mangos for £1. There were 11 in a box, which works out at 9p per mango, and they are large, luscious and perfect. I cut up the softest five, put them in a bowl in the fridge, nearly all gone now, so I'll cut the rest up soon. If you love mangoes and are near Whitechapel this weekend....

Yesterday in the Holloway Rd I got 2lbs president plums for £1, 2 boxes of blueberries for £1.50, 2 boxes of raspberries for £1.50, but he only had one box left so he gave me that for free, so huge carrier bag of soft fruit for £4. :money:

Not sure if this i the right place to post this (most other mention of Farmers Markets come in MS OS), but realised reading another thread that I have a calender for Farmers Markets around Lincolnshire area if anyone fancies visiting one (there may be more, this is a list of markets attended by one particular stall)

Look out for country fairs, we went to one last weekend and got some lovely chorizo, and they were selling all kinds of meat and speciality cheeses as well as liqueurs, wines and rare whiskies!

  • I cannot stress how impressed I am with my local farmers market! I have to buy a lot of chicken and turkey as I am into bodybuilding and I thought I would try my local market in Colchester, Essex. If you're buying a fair amount it worked out about 40% less than what I pay at Sainsburys/Tesco for poultry fillets. Has anyone else had similar joy at a farmers market as I know some can be a complete rip off!
