Firstly welcome to the site.
If you post a SOA then some of the people here will be able to help you. Also people who know more about these things than I will be able to help make sure you are getting any benefits and whatnot you are entitled to.
It's not an impossible problem so don't stress and don't ignore it.0 -

Hi all,
thanks for replying so quickly. I just worked it all out on the calculator.
Basically, after paying out all the neccesary stuff. I donlt have any luxuries such as gym, etc. and I take packed lunch to work in an attempt to save money.
I am left with around £125 left to pay off debts. That would be best case scenario - i.e. if no money emergencies had happened that month!
Arrrgggghhh, I just feel stuck and like I will never get out of it
Thanks in advance....0 -
I am thinking maybe I should post it in full?
I get £1300 a month (including care allowance)
I pay per month:
£200 rent
£250 food (including packed lunches and pet food)
£75 car insurance (ouch!) can't get any cheaper due to a previous claim
£78 travel card
£100 petrol (driving my nan around to appointments, etc.)
£25 haircut (£50 every 2 months)
£50 going out money
£50 put away for xmas presents and yearly family holiday
£20 home phone
£10 Internet
£10 TV licence
£17 Nan's Sky
£37 pet insurance (2 dogs and a cat)
£40 electricity
£20 gas
£62.50 loan payment
£25 share save scheme at work
£100 miscellaneous - emergencies, things my nan needs, dentist, bills, etc.0 -

£200 rent
£250 food (including packed lunches and pet food) - How many is this for? If just 2 of you, you can definately cut this
£75 car insurance (ouch!) can't get any cheaper due to a previous claim - That is horrendous! can you get it cheaper anywhere else? What on earth do you drive?
£78 travel card - Why do you need a travel card and a car?
£100 petrol (driving my nan around to appointments, etc.)
£25 haircut (£50 every 2 months) - Get it cut somewhere cheaper!!!
£50 going out money
£50 put away for xmas presents and yearly family holiday - From the info you have provided, you can't afford a holiday
£20 home phone
£10 Internet
£10 TV licence
£17 Nan's Sky - Can she make do with Freeview?
£37 pet insurance (2 dogs and a cat) - This seems high, can you get it cheaper elsewhere?
£40 electricity
£20 gas
£62.50 loan payment - Is this your only debt? Who to, how long outstanding? Interest rate?
£25 share save scheme at work - You can't afford this
£100 miscellaneous - emergencies, things my nan needs, dentist, bills, etc.
If you have a car, there is nothing for tax, MOT, repairs etc. Who pays the council tax?
Can you list what you owe to whom, the outstanding amount, limit, minimum payments and interest rates?
Nearly £6K in debt isn't a huge amount although I realise that it may seem massive to you. I earn less than you and owe twice as much so don't worry, there is always someone worse off! I definately wouldn't go bankrupt over that amount.

It's actually a motability car - so tax, AA, etc. is covered. I just have to worry about petrol and insurance.
I owe
£2161.33 to Next
£107.95 tp Brroks and Bentley
£88.95 to Britannia Music
£348.48 to Studio
£1030.06 to Barclays
£623.99 to Empire
£1066.46 to miscellaneous catalgue (Nan took it out in my name)
£175.71 to to Vanquis
As I say, they're old debts and they're alld emanding the maximum amount... I have tried askign to pay £15 a month of each, but they have all refused. So I end up just leaving it and leaving it
Thanks everyone. x
May I ask how old these debts are? and when you last paid anything off them?
Even though creditors 'refuse' lowwer payments they do cash the cheques even if only for £1. Subject to the answer to my question it is important to pay something, even if only token amounts.
Best to check your credit file, as it allows you to make informed judgements rather than 'stabbing in the dark'[strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j
Target: Stay debt free0 -
Put yourself in charge not them. You tell them your going to pay them £15 per month as thats all you can afford. Then every month you send them a cheque for that amount. You will get phone calls but i owe alot of money to alot of people and i've never had a bad call. They will accept your money as they know they have no choice. All they could do is go for a CCJ in which case the judge would tell you them that's all you can afford. Or you can get on a Debt Management Plan (DMP) with CCCS or alike which is just the same but they give you advice etc.Its time to nut up or shut up......!

Don't leave it or ignore the letters, that is the worst thing you can do - they will add late payment fees and your debt will increase.
Maybe you should speak to one of the debt charities - CCCS or PayPlan - they will give you free advise on your options.
