Job and Bankruptcy

[FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif]I am looking in to different solutions to help me with my debt and read that you can lose your job if you work in certain professions. I am currently working in the IT department for my local council and was wondering if my job would be safe. Also would joint debts, i.e, council tax, be cleared by myself going bankrupt or would both of us have to go bankrupt to clear the debt. I have also read that it can affect your tax code and reduce this to a nil code. What happens with this as I have not explored this any further at the moment.

Hi, have you been advised to become bankrupt or is this just something you're considering? Might be useful to post up some details about your debt and income etc, as maybe bankruptcy isn't the best option if possible to avoid. There's a lot of us on here with high level debts dealing with things via debt management plans etc
I'm not sure about the council tax I'm afraid but with it being a joint debt I have a feeling they'd come after your OH to get this money, sure someone else has more knowledge than me on this
I think jobs are affected are mainly ones in the finance sector, not sure about IT but again sure someone will advise xMoney doesn't make you happy so I'm skint but cheerful :beer:0 -
Hello and welcome.
BR is one of 3 routes you can go down.
Debt management plan/IVA or BR. I suggest contacting CCCS or Payplan who offer free impartial advice on which would be best in your situation. I also believe CCCS have a tool on their website that allows you to imput all your details and it shows you the best route to take......maybe someone on here knows the link. (I know I've seen it somewhere).
Just remember you're not alone.:rotfl:I'm Cosmo, Cosmo Kramer! :rotfl:0
