Argos - Failed collection of returned item.... twice!!

Hello all, I just wondered if anyone has some advice on what I can do regarding Argos failing to collect a returned item please?
We 'panic' ordered a top of the range Dyson vacuum cleaner over the telephone on Monday 5th May 2008. Sadly in our haste we ordered the wrong model (the animal and the allergy look incredibly similar!), but we didn't discover our £300 mistake until the item was delivered. As soon as hubby pointed out it was the wrong type and they didn't actually sell the one we were after, we telephoned (within a couple of days of receipt of vacuum) and requested a return and refund - the box has been untouched/unopened, so they were fine with that.
We were told we wouldn't get a refund on the delivery charge, which is fair enough, and that collection would be anytime between 9.00am and 6.00pm on Friday 9th May. I stayed in all day, not leaving the house once and they didn't arrive.
On Monday 12th May, I stayed in again, only venturing out to do the school run for 20 mins.... and you guessed it, that is when they tried to collect the Dyson. It was a bit annoying, but I wasn't overly concerned, we just telephoned again to re-arrange... this time for Wednesday 21st May. Oh joy, another day spent at home, keeping everything quiet so I wouldn't miss them.... and yet again, they didn't turn up.
I'm a placid type of person, but waiting in for 2 whole days (plus most of another unscheduled day) has annoyed me... does anyone have some advice please? I wondered if this now deserves a refund of the original delivery charge, or if I should attempt to take the heavy box back myself to a local Argos? I'm fed up of not having my freedom and looking at a giant box in my hallway (maybe I should paint it and put a pot plant on the top?!?!).
Many thanks in advance,
Penny

Youve honoured your original pick up times. Tell them when you are going to be there , convienient to you, Then stick it out of the way (they might forget:rotfl: ), but not your fault

Make sure you get your refund, then give them a 7 day notice to pick the item up or you will dispose of it.
We did this with an item delivered from The Early Learning Centre, they never bothered to pick the item up and we ended up selling it on ebay. They really weren't interested! Which amazed me at the time.
Best of luck

Don't know if there's a store nearby... you could take the Dyson and your delivery note and they could do a refund in store for you. I know it's not always possible what with kids and travel etc, but it's an option.0

if it is a store stocked item, then you should have no problem getting a local store to accept it into their stock and refunding you. take your receipt, delivery paperwork etc. if you paid cash make sure you take photo ID to get the refund.
if it is not a store stocked item then they may still take it and arrange to return it themselves if you ask nicely enoughknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
