Which part of the lamb is this?

I hope someone can put me right. I have just got a leg of lamb in my crock pot now. I don't usually cook a lot of lamb but it was on a really good special. When I unwrapped it and had a peice attached on the bottom. Could have been a leg
but it had a bit of meat in it. I cut it off and wrapped it in clingwrap and popped it back in fridge. Is it ok to make soup out of and if so how would I do it? I did try and google to see if the cuts of meat were explained but no luck so far.

It would be the hock part, or what is called a lamb shank, and they're excellent for making casseroles/soups
Edit: just noticed you asked how to make the soup!
Make up a stock as you would with a chicken carcase - i.e. boil the shank with some veggies, herbs etc for a couple of hours then strain it to keep the liquid and pick all meat off the bone and store in fridge overnight. You now have the base for a lovely soup just to add fresh veggies along with the meat to the stock and season to taste. Simmer until veggies cooked"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Thank you so much CQ :T
I thought it was too good to give to the dogs. Do you put any pulses into the soup like barley or lentils. I am going shopping this arv and have lentils on the list. I don't have any barley, although got some green split peas. When you pick the meat off the bones, do you just put it in a container until the next day and add it to the stock. Do you have to remove the fat like chicken soup. You are up late. Can't sleep hey. I'm suppose to be vacuming/ washing floors. I've done nothing except brekky dishes and hung a load of washing out. Oh...and put the CP on. Good night.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
You can certainly put a handful of lentils or barley in it if you like, in fact I'd recommend the barley with lamb as they go very well together, and I'm now starting to  thinking about it
Oh and yes, there will be some solidified fat to skim off the day after, hence better leaving it in the fridge overnight. Pull all the meat off the bone and leave it in a covered dish till you make the soup
I was going to bed an hour ago, then ended up spending half an hour in the bathroom brushing my hair out, so of course I had to come and sit back down here again on my way back through to the bedroom "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

There's a recipe in one of my books for that, possibly a Nigella one, that I've wanted to try for some time now - looks delicious!!!
It's difficult for me to get hold of cuts of meat like that though (despite living above a butcher's!) as I refuse to buy anything from him on principal of us being locked into a dispute over noise levels, which I won't get into right now or I could rant on forever... plus the fact, after monitoring his deliveries for some time, I think it highly unlikely he'd have any in anyway
If anyone knows of any good meat suppliers online (free range/organic preferably) that would supply these then I'd love to hear about them! Most places I've looked at sell a leg of lamb already boned and rolled but I prefer to have it on the bone! Would buying a whole leg of lamb give me the shank bit too (assuming I can find someone to sell it on the bone) or would they cut it off? But then I'd want 2-3 to make the casserole "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Well mine came with the shank bit. But yesterday when I was shopping at the supermarket in a separate package I noticed a tray of about 3-4 shanks. Would you like me to post some over?Maybe you have them in the meat dept as well. I've never noticed them before. I very rarely buy lamb you see, so I'm not up with the bits and pieces. BTW the soup turned out lovely. Having some for lunch today and froze two batches for later.
