Flat Feet

They aren't a special design, they are just made with more build up in the inner arch area.It feels a bit like stiff memory foam.
I got a pair for DH first, then went back and got a pair for myself - they're suede effect mules with hard undersoles, got them from TJ Hughes , £6.99 a pair.
The sandals I had already - have a look at her current shoes and see if any of them look quite built up in the inner arch area.
p.s. Really flat shoes are meant to be worse for flat feet too, a 1 1/2 " heel is meant to be better - so take a break from the dolly shoes/ballet pumps.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Thanks for that.
She's a funny girl, she only owns 2 pairs of shoes, her school shoes and a new pair of trainers I just bought... she just has no interest in clothes, nothing like her younger sister who is a fashion victim already..
My eldest wants to join the RAF (through my persuasion) and I'm hoping this flat feet problem won't ruin her chances, I had a look at the website and it doesn't mention it in the medical eligibility bit, so heres hoping!0 -
Change her shoes too, then. I used to wear 'footgloves' from M&S all the time because they were wide enough for my feet. When I stopped wearing them and started wearing walking shoes with orthitic support in them I noticed a difference.
It's still the slippers that have made the biggest difference though.:jMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I agree with ailuro, one of the things that made the biggest difference to me was wearing orthotic insoles and never going barefoot. My doc also recommended doing lunges to build up the muscles above the knee and reduce knee pain. The combination of things has worked. It's a good job your DD isn't a fashionite though, shoes with support are quite far away from fashion alas!0

As mentioned above - orthotic insoles should be able to realign the foot correctly so that normal shoes will fit - I make them for kids all the time and the only requirements on the footwear is that they aren't flimsy and have a decent sole on them - any schoolshoes or reasonable trainers would handle the insoles no problem - even boots and wellies if the insoles are made correctly - obviously the flat feet are wider than normal feet but once you correct that 99/100 times they will need smaller shoes when wearing insoles even though the insoles take up a little space, not to mention that if you catch flat feet early enough u can pretty much fix it entirely - or in the case of most teenagers halt the progression if theres any. Also a pair of orthotic insoles will reduce chance of having pain problems when they're older. treatment for pain like that is the exact same when your much older but with the added downpoint that you have to wear the insoles whenever you walk to avoid the pain returning.
sorry i forgot to add that the insoles can aquired thru the NHS - Don't go for private treatment, u'll get ripped off and orthotics is one of the few areas where private treatment is not necesarilly better and very often isn't! Might take slightly longer but its worth it!0
