Credit Rating

Sorry if this isn't the right place to put this. It's my first post!
Up until about 2 years ago I was bad with my money. I had numerous credit cards, a loan, and store cards and an overdraft. I was always trying to juggle my money to just pay the minimum.
I contacted my bank got them to re-finance my loan. With a bonus at work I managed to clear all but the loan and one credit card and I still have these. I haven't missed any payments on either and my credit card is normally either paid off or not far off it. I've not missed one payment on any bills nor gone overdrawn since.
I've turned a corner but my credit rating hasn't. I wanted to switch banks and credit card but I can't get anything at all.
Does anyone know why this would be?
Thanks
