Halifax sending people to my house - why?

I have a credit card with the Halifax. I've sent them my proposals, budget sheet etc and they've never acknowledged it. They do, however, ring me up EVERY DAY from before 8.30 am to about 9.30pm. If I pick up the phone, there's no answer.

Anyhow, yesterday I got 2 cards through the post. They said - 'Important Notice. Our representative will be calling your home on: xx/xx/xx. Please telephone *insert expensive 0870 number here* if this is not convenient.

So I rang. I asked why someone was coming to see me. She said it was obviously becasue I owed them money.I asked why they hadn't replied to the letteer I sent in Feb. They said they had. I said I'd had no such letter, could they resend it. Apparently niot, another section had sent the letter, and besides they refuse to deal with me unless it's through the CCCS.

I'm acting on their advice, why should they take time to write letters I can write myself? They have enough work to do!

She said she couldn't confirm this in writing, becasue they've sent the letter, she wouldn't tell me who or what these 'representatives' are, and she hung up on me!

Anyone have any idea? Are they bailiffs, or what?

I'm going to the CAB later to get an appointment, I've had enough of this.

Not before I've written Halifax a stinking letter of complaint though...:p

Halifax will not and cannot send anyone round to the house. They are bluffiing.
You have to have recieved a CCJ from them and then defaulted on that before a baliff will call round. DO NOT CALL them and DO NOT ANSWER their calls. Request all correspondence is written and ignore them. It will take a while for it to calm down, it always does.

I can second that. It has to go along way before the Baliff's come round. Its just usual bully boy tactic. Ignore them stick to your guns.

Thanks for that - it's odd that I got two cards with different dates, too.

I won't be in anyway - I do work for a living, after all, but I will definitely be getting myself to the CAB, in fact I think I'll go now :D

Just to say, we have Halifax CC on a DMP through CCCS and we have NEVER had a card of the sort you describe, threatening to call at the house.
They did used to ring though, but I think it's an automated thing, and there isn't always anyone on other end when it gets through to you.
Sounds like its gone to a Debt Collection Agency, but in my experience (only) they usually take ages to get to that stage.

is it possible to 'google' the telephone number and see who it comes up with. I think I've read somewhere of people doing that?

It has been said many many times you should never ring these people !!!! IT DOES NO GOOD AT ALL . These cards have been mentioned on several occasions on the forum . They will not have come from the HALIFAX , but a DCA .They have no powers to enter your home , if anyone turns up , more likely to be a little green man !, tell them to go forth and multiply. What name is on the card ? What is the name of the DCA acting for HALIFAX ?

Well the card has the Halifax logo, address and registered office on it.

And on the envelope, they spelled my name incorrectly in the peculiar way that only Halifax does

CAB was full, and no actual reception. Unfortunately I can't sit there for 3 hours waiting, i have to work, so will try to phone them in a minute

So if their name isn't on it, but only Halifax, isn't that some form of deception?

This is why we say never ring them , it could be anyone , and if you make any payment over the phone to them , how do you know payment goes to the right people ?

Oh believe me, I won't be paying them over the phone - I have no cash!!!
