Mothers and sisters debt coming to my door

Hi all,
I have a dilema which I could do with some advice on. I hope I can explain what is going on as its a little confusing.
My mom and sister have run up a £1466.94 debt with the Grattan Catalogue.
I used to share a flat with my sister up until 2 months ago.
The statements for the catalogue are in my mums name but are coming to the flat which I used to share with my sister. My sister used to pay the amount outstanding on the statement each month.
My sister had decided she has paid enough off the catalogue and has stopped paying.
My old address is still receiving letters from Grattan. The most recent ones are threatening debt collecters.
The landlord from the flat I used to share with my sister has my address as the forwarding address. I didn't know about the catalogue when I gave my old landlord my address.
I have spoken to both my mum and sister and both of them are refusing to pay the debt pointing the finger at each other. My mum and sister both live at seperate addresses.
My concern is the landlord may point the debt collecters to my door.
Is there anything I can do as everytime I try to talk to my mum and sister about this we end up having massive rows.
Any replies much appreciated.

Hiya,
I would not get involved. Just send the letters back wth 'not at this address', and perhaps point your mum & sister towards a debt charity to see if they can sort something out to pay it.Sadly as the statements are in your mum's name, she is responsible for the account.
Also make sure your sister is taken off the electoral register for your property, and then you shouldn't have too much trouble getting them to leave you alone, as after all, an address cannot be blacklisted, only a person.
Hopefully someone will be along soon to give more advice, but I hope this is a start.

The debt is not in your name therefore not your debt. (and YOU didn't take out the credit either I'm assuming? lol)
If they do contact you, give them your Mum and sisters names and address'. Basically, if it is in your Mom's name, it's HER debt!Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
Thanks for the quick replies.
I already mentioned to my mom that I will them we she lives and she blew her top saying why should she have to pay my sisters debt.
There's no reasoning with either of them.0 -
Without meaning to be rude, it's between your mum and sister, and if they act like you say, I see no point in trying to get involved! As I said, as sad as it is, if your mum's name is on the account, she's liable, regardless of who spent the money.
If I were you I'd leave them to it!
Good luck! xx...I like my coffee black, just like my metal!

I agree with the other posters. I once had this with my mum.she had provident loans, and catalogue debt. she used my house as the address, i only found out one day when i was off ill, asleep on couch and i heard the door go. she trotted through the house, into the porch and waited for provident woman to turn up. I tackled her about this, and also found out about catalogue debt.I have to say we were living in her old house and had bought it off them, so letters were addressed to mum, we just gave them to her. After that i made sure she dealt with them, and contacted the companies to say where she lived etc. I took the key off her, and didn't speak to her for a few months. funnily enough she had wanted to keep it a secret from dad, but had to tell him, and he patched it up with us.
so my advice is to firmly put it at their door, make sure the companies know and don't take any !!!!!! from either your mother or your sister..life is too short.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
I agree with previous post . You can not allow this to impact on your credit rating . I would write to the company that are demanding money and explain that it is not your debt and you are no longer at that address . Do not give them your new address. Its up to you if you give your mums and sisters address . I would give them the addresses , its their mess not yours !0

Thanks guys, you are absolutely right.
I will point them to my mum if they come knocking door. Shame it had to get like this.0
