Post Office Transcash payment traceable? Bailiffs are threatening!

Hi everyone.

About 6 months ago, I had to pay a drunk & disorderly fine. No biggie, £120. I paid with a transcash slip at my local post office. I considered it done and dusted. Three months later, a bailiff letter comes, demanding payment of said fine. I spoke with them, and advised that I had paid. They gave me 28 days to prove it with the court. I e-mailed the court, and faxed over my receipt. I heard nothing back, despite several messages to them. I considered the matter closed.

Three months later, as in today, I receive a new bailiffs letter, delivered by hand, requesting immediate payment of £345, no doubt with several outrageous fees attached, and a warning that bailiffs could and would attend my house and remove my goods, using force to enter if necessary.

My mother is now a nervous wreck, and my dad has had a few harsh words for me. What can I do? Is transcash traceable? I still have a copy of my receipt, the e-mails I sent the court, everything. The bailiffs say they will plan to attend until they get proof.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated, I'm at my wits end.

Thanks in advance.

    hi mate,

ouch, this could turn into a pricey night out.

ya need to go back to the po you paid it at and tell em that the receipients havent recieved the payment. ask the po manager if he/she could check their daily reports for that day. this might take a few mins, so my advice would be to take a copy of receipt in and leave it with them to find in their own time, tell em u'll return at end of day.

if they can confirm the payment was recieved and despatched correctly, u need to contact whoever the receipient was (not the court, i presume), tell em u been to the po and the payment was sent and their (receipient) bill payment/proccessing dept needs to find where this payment has got to. might also be an idea to let the court know whats happenin.

if the po have lost the transcash slip and dont have a record of your payment then either ask the po to make good your payment asap (hopefully they should of had a £120 gain that week), or if he/she not willing to do that, contact the po helpline on 08457223344, tell em your circumstances and c what they can do.

just keep hold of ur original receipt.

hope it works out for u, and behave when your next out!!

While your playing chase the payment, never let the original receipt go, write to the baliff comapny and state that the payment was paid on xx/xx/xx by xx method, that u are enclosing a dated receipt, and at the present time you are in the process of chaseing the po to find out exactly what happened, as the cash left your hand, you have a receipt, then technically your in the right, thou with baliffs a techniciality isnt proof. Good luck and dont drop the matter. x

    It should be traceable.

The PO will have an end of day summary report filed away somewhere - it may take them a while to find it but they keep them at least 2 years. That will have the account number and amount on it.

Get them to check that the account number was typed in correctly - if it was wrong it will have gone to the wrong account if it wasn't spotted when processing at the bank (which it should be - but not 100% certain).

My own guess is that the court HAS received the payment but failed to reconcile it with your fine for some reason.

You'll get there. Don't give in
  • Got a letter from the PO today, with their sincere apologies, and telling me they could trace the payment. All sorted. No worries!:j
