As fire stations are often busy they limit home visits to vunerable members of the community such as OAP'S and disabled people, thats what we were told when my nana had hers fitted they even brought the truck she was well amazed by it all .

I've just had 2 free smoke alarms fitted today.

Just to let everyone know, the chap who fitted them told me that this is a free service which is open to all people. All ages, you do not need to have a disability or be elderly.

The free phone number is... 08000 28 44 28

email... smokealarms@london-fire.gov.uk

I do hope this helps lots of people, and saves lives.

This is such a fantastic freebie.

I had a bad house fire about 6 years ago now, and although i had smoke alarms, id forgotten to change the batteries in them, so they were useless.

Luckily i was awake when the fire started, and both myself and my son were able to get out of the house. We lost everything upstairs, but we were safe, which is the main thing.

Ever since the fire, i have always made sure my alarms work, i have also got 2 of them wired to my electrics.

Please please please, if you havent already...please contact your local fire station, and get these alarms....they can save your lives. At the time of fitting, the firemen can go around your house, and point out safety hazards and your best route for escape should you ever need it.

Ive made sure all my friends and family and neighbours have taken up this offer, its the best freebie around by far!!

The new alarms which they are using now have a 10 year battery fitted in them!!
The unit is date stamped too, so tells you when you need a new battery. When it needs replacing, you simply phone them, and they come and do it all for you... :T

You only have to test it weekly, and give it a hoover every so often for dust etc.

To me this is the best freebie I've ever seen, as it's a life saver.
