I have just looked at the Wayback Machine site - amazing! However, I have a question. I am able to find the old estate agents pages, but I am only able to view the front pages, ie I cannot use these front pages to see what properties were on the market then - it just comes back page not found. how do I view the actual pages showing the property that was on the market at that time?

    Thanks

That's why I said 'might!' I've found Wayback OK to get into some agent's old Internet pages where it is a small agency with its own site. Even so, some agencies seem to block viewing of property specific detailed pages. For example, I can get a Rural Scene 'New Properties' page from 2003 and I can click on each to get a brief resume & price, but when I click for more detail, it isnt there. An experiment with a larger, multi-office agency (Stags) drew a blank, by taking me through to the Vebra site they use whenever I tried to do a search from an old front page.

If you look at the FAQs on the Wayback site it gives some detail on this, but I suppose the bottom line is that people might not be too happy having their property details permanently visible years after they'd bought the house.

Sorry this wasn't of help to you. It worked for me, but even then I had to fiddle around a bit to get a date which worked.

Thanks for that - thought I was doing something wrong!

Well, since I posted this thread two others have come on on the same street at similar prices. All similar houses, all very nice and just the sort of thing I want, all massively overpriced. I have found out that the house that went for 290K was a hotel, so not actually comparable. All have dropped to 299950.

I'm going to watch and wait. Not really in a position to buy right now anyway as both OH and I are working away from base for a year.
