I know how you feel ~
I was recently thinking about changing my car but found out this weekend it is only worth £2500 (or thats what the garage offered). I still have about £5000 left on the loan ~ ouch!!
I really dont know what to do so will be reading this tread for ideas ~ the worst thing is my car is low milage and still in good condition i cant believe how much the value has dropped!!
Only option for me that i know of at the moment is to sit on it and keep paying i have about three years left. I cant believe how stupid i was when i took that loan!

Thanks for your advice guys, depsite my glaring error in my OP!!! LOL
Yes, I think it is probably best to stay put with my lovely astra really. What spurred the idea in the first place was because one of my work colleagues has just bought an astra diesal, same shape as mine and we were comparing notes.
A full tank of petrol for mine costs anywhere between £45-£50 depending whether I go to tescos or sainsburys and lasts me 350-400 miles. His diesal astra costs £50-60 to fill up and he gets about 500 miles out of it.0 -
I found out how much my car was worth by looking in Parkers and then looking at autotrader for similar spec car's.0

used to be years ago diesel was good value for miles etc but not so much now. do you use the car for any short journeys at all? (presuming you dont!!) as that tends to eat up diesel/fuel more than a long journey.0

I have a 30 mile round trip for my first/main job and I reckon about 10-15 mile round trip for second job. Just seems I spend ALL my time in the blinking petrol station. Spend £100-150 a month on petrol easy!0

Speaking as someone who made the switch to Diesel 6 months ago....
I was spending over 300 quid on petrol per month! (I drive 100 round trip every day to work) I was driving an old Cav and getting about 30 mpg
I switched to Diesel, brought myself a Golf (lovely cars, ), and now spend less than 200 quid a month on petrol. I am getting 55+ mpg on it (and I boot it down the motorway!).
I kept a spreadsheet of mileage, petrol costs, mpg etc etc and if I was still in my old car I would be paying £150 a month extra!!
£150 per month extra in my pocket, cash! That's the equivalent of a £2,304 pay rise.
Car tax is cheaper as well!
You need to work out your mpg in the car at the moment (divide no of miles on a tank by no of litres at last fillup and then divide again by 4.5), get onto Excel and type in your mileage, the price of petrol and diesel and work out what the saving is to you.
Mine was massive but I started off with a crap car...."I don't want to sound cold and un-caring, but I am those things so that's the way it comes out" - Bill Hicks0 -
I'll try that out tonight. Thanks!0
