Sainsbury Official Voucher Code Statement

The following is a statement prepared for this site from Sainsbury about how it intends to progress the 'voucher code' issues.
5 November 2004
"This £10 one hour delivery promotion was set up to compensate any of our customers who received their Sainsbury's to You order late and we are clearly frustrated that this situation has occurred.
The voucher should only be used once and the terms and conditions clearly state that they are non-transferable.
While customers who used these vouchers unwittingly should not be concerned, we do take this very seriously and reserve the right to take legal action against anyone who we believe has knowingly and repeatedly used these vouchers to get free shopping."

MoneySaving is about pushing terms and conditions but never breaking them.
This was an unfortunate situation, a mix of people pushing too far, and Sainsbury's ineffective technology.
What if i used a code should I be worried?
Not overly. It is very likely this will blow over for virtually everyone. To be honest I would be surprised if anyone had legal action taken against them.
However if this were to be repeated, then it is likely Sainsbury would take action.
Ultimately, Sainsbury is looking at its technology, and i hope it will mean people are not able to abuse the system anymore.
I believer it is culpable to an extent, as the technology enabled people to use voucher codes without a warning, and without being aware they were breaking any rules.
What happens if the worst happens and i get contacted about legal action from Sainsbury
Please contact me (martin@moneysavingexpert.com) and we will look at what happens from there.
What about other voucher codes
The rules of this site are clear, always display the source of the code and who is eligible to use them. If you fail to do that you could be prosecuted for fraud.
There are many open source codes, often published in magazines that all can share and benefit from the discounts. These are welcomed and encouraged. Yet if you have a personal code, only for your use, even if it works for others, keep it to youself. The last thing we want is a MoneySaver prosecuted for fraud.
Why can't we talk about this further on the boards
For the moment I think it is best that this situation isn't discussed any further on the Chat Forum. I do apologise for that but it is necessary. I hope you apprecaite it. This thread will be locked so no replies can be made. If you have an urgent point to make (rather than a comment) then you can use the PM system to send me a message
