Tuesday 20/05/08, what small DFW things have you done today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

I have:
  • Checked banking - reduced a SO as I cant afford the full amount this week :(
  • Checked ebay - buyer has finally paid!
  • Checked for mystery shops
  • Done PB CT and comps
  • Walked kids to school
  • Bought a reduced charentais melon - my fave - and cost 59p :T
  • Kids had packed lunch.
And I will:
  • Pack and post ebay parcel
  • Walk DD to a party shortly, walk to pick her up later
  • Walk to collect kids from school
  • Work out if its worth using money to put petrol in car (rather than off debt) now - unleaded is due to go up 5p a litre by this weekend
  • Will eat totally from stores, if it aint ere, we dont eat it lol. I have mince to use up and a request has been put in for that nice mincy tomatoey thing I do - that would be bolognaise then :rotfl: but unsure what I am eating as not SW friendly (lean rather than extra lean mince).
  • Work out budget for this thurs onward.
  • Apart from above melon it should be a NSD :D
You know this not being able to afford petrol and walking for an hour and a half each day better be doing something for my weight loss lol.

    Morning - can I join you? :)

I hung about here a few months ago, got rid of my overdraft and credit card and then stopped posting... :(

Still debt free though! Although finding things a little tight at the minute.

    Anyway - today I:

*walked to work and ran home
*didn't take any money out to buy cr*p on the way home!
*am working at home to stop myself being anywhere near a vending machine...
*did a YouGov survey this morning

    And I will:
*cancel RAC payment (due at end of week) and sign up with cheaper breakdown people
*walk into town to put all my small change in the bank (sadly to cover the Breakdown Cover, but will repay it to myself before I need it, honest...)
    *get the 50p bus home
    *eat lunch at home
    *cycle to work this evening

    Nice to see you all
    :)

Good Afternoon All :hello: (I'm running a bit late today)

    Today I have/will:
    • 1 Piggy click
    • Checked on-line banking - no miraculous balance improvement, but nor has it been reduced ;)
    • For the last week I have been using loose tea instead of bags. (Now that really is baby steps....) but I have now got it into my routine. And I'm using up the loose tea that various family members received at Christmas, but couldn't be *rsed to bother with :rotfl: So FREE tea!
    • Brought in packed lunch. HM bread. I haven't bought a loaf since I bought the BM in the January sales with my Christmas money. Sadly it doesn't last like shop bread so I have a freezer full of crumbs and the fattest birds in the county :rotfl:
    • I really really will list items on e-bay tonight......
    • A NSD again :T
I may go to bed early like others, this site is patrolled by Night Owls, so it will be safe without me :D

paying for nowt - are you signed up to Quidco? I did RAC membership through that a couple weeks back as a new customer - took the lowest level of cover, and with the cashback offer, it ended up costing £12 for a year.

Cheery Daff - see if quidco has other offers for non-RAC deals?

Ditto re pet insurance... am trying to sort that myself too. Thinking Halifax, if I can get their website to finally work (£20 cashback via quidco, works out less than my current renewal with Direct Line).

    So far today I have:
    - checked MS jobs
    - did a MS left over from last night and filed report
    - did a Toluna survey for 3400 points (finally!! I am NEVER accepted)
    - Brought lunch to work
    - checked my eBay auctions (discovered something I thought might go for a quid is at 16 with 2 days to go and quite collectable haha!)
    - posted book for GM sale
    - did piggy click

Hmm.. will think of more later!
    Added:
-another massive Toluna survey (it never rains but it pours?)
    Debt - Loan: £1150 C/C: £4763 @ 0%.

    Hi PFN,

Have you signed up to quidco? You can get quite a lot of cashback for pet insurance with petguard (£25 per cat with v good levels of cover) and for breakdown cover.

    Worth a look...

    Hi Oliveoyl,

I have a breadmaker too, and while I love it, I know what you mean about it going stale quickly. Bread and butter pudding is always a good way to use it up and is v popular in our house!
