If its not something you are planning to do, why do you ask the question?
The short answer is yes they can chase you abroad.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Leave money in your UK account to service the Direct debits? I believe this is what a colleague of mine did when he went to live in Australia for 12 mnths.Kavanne

The OP was enquiring about the ability to repossess in a different country. I dont think leaving money or any possessions here in the UK is an option in the question asked.

Yes they can, and probably will
The other thing to remember is that once the Debt is passed to a debt collector in the overseas country, it will become subject to the laws of that country
Some countries have much more punitive laws on non payment of debts than we do in this country.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
question is "How will they find you?"
Its a big bad world out there.0 -
Sniffer dogs and helicopters if you believe the movies.
There are various trace techniques that can be used.
Not sure how true this is but I saw someone claim on here not so long ago that if it gets to a certain stage, they can (i forget the exact terminology) impound your passport. So whether they courts can request the information on where it was last used, I don't know.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. A lot of bad advice given in this thread. I'm not condoning the action but I do know that they don't persue the debt unless you either:
1. Move to a country that has ties to the one you moved from, eg. moving from England to Jersey or Guernsey will not cut your ties.
2. Open an account in another country with the same bank (or group of banks) that you had your debt with in the UK (they all talk to each other you see).

Urban myth. Sorry to disappoint.

no disappointment whatsoever. I understood the reciprocal agreements before hand but I wasn't wanting to be an accessory to fraud lol.
