Statute Barred and Credit file

Hi,I would be grateful for any advise.

Had a call a couple of weeks ago from a debt collection agency ,who said that they were phoning about a debt to British Gas for £146.Anyway as I could not recall ever being a British Gas customer I told them that they must have the wrong person and thought that was that.Got another call From DCA a week later,so phoned British gas to see if they could tell me anything about it,after a lot of searching they informed me that the debt was from 2001 when I changed supplier from them - well I've absolutely no recollection of their ever being any amount outstanding on my account nor have I ever been contacted by British gas or anybody else about this alleged debt.

Thanks to this brilliant site I know that this alleged debt is statute barred anyway so sent of the "statute barred " letter to both the DCA and British Gas ,but my main worry is,can they enter a default on my credit file ? I've spent years trying to build up a decent credit rating and would be devastated to see it wrecked over £146.

Thanks in advance for any help
