Should I be upset at this viewer's comment?

As background, ex and I are splitting up, so house is on the market. Been on the market for two weeks, 5 viewers, not bad going for a £400K house. However, the feedback we got from the last viewer yesterday has really upset me. I am a total neat and tidy freak and you could view my house without giving me notice, but this lady said that the house wasn't presented properly. What had happened was that ex had turned up, and we were sitting in the garden having coffee, when they arrived 15 mins earlier and came round to the back of the house. The dog went up to them, and OH explained that he would let them in if they went to the front door.
However, I'd forgotten to pick up the cat food bowls that are in one of the back bedrooms -the cats come in through a window up a flat roof. This lady specifically mentioned that the cat bowls were lying on the floor. To be honest, looking back I forgot to pick them up and put them away on Saturday, but the couple never mentioned it - nor to me or the estate agent, maybe to each other I suppose!
Am I being overly sensitive? I know in this current market you have to make more of an effort, I truly am an incredibly tidy and clean person, I just forgot about the bowls - and they turned up early!
I'd appreciate your feedback on this - good or bad! Thanks.

I would remind them that only the house was for sale, and you would be taking the cat's bowlsThis is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

Nope, I wouldn't worry, they probably just used it as an excuse to not put an offer in.
Or some people are just snobs.
Either way, I wouldn't give it a 2nd thought!A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
Maybe she has a limited imagination and could not picture the room without cat food bowls. I think some people will find anything to pick fault with...0

:rotfl:very good!
OP - In all seriousness I wouldn't worry about it. You'll have to be more thick skinned. Just imagine what her house looks like. I bet it's not perfect either. people who complain about small things like that aren't going to buy it anyway.0 -
I think you are naturally reacting to a stranger coming into your home and judging the way you live, I was exactly the same and I'm sure a lot of people are. The only way I got around the problem was to stay away when people viewed and to have only constructive feedback given by the agent in a generic way.
Maybe it would be a good idea to loose all traces of animals when people are viewing as it can put them off.
It is a very emotional journey selling up, and I hope it all goes well for you and the cats!! :beer:0 -
not over sensitive no, she just sounds like a real nit picker.
you have cats, they need feeding, where would she have liked the bowls to be, on the dining table????
some people fail to see they are buying the house and not the contents/furniture/decor etc and seem to feel that because they are looking to buy it, they have the right to criticise EVERYTHING!!0 -
TBH one of my pet(!) hates is cat/dog food bowls out on show, especially in a kitchen, and on reflection probably even more so in a bedroom. The viewer may have been the same, but you really cannot please everyone. i have a friend who hates toys on show and another who is the same about coats in a hallway.........so we are all different. Don't fret about it.0

You should have commented on how tasteless her dress was and how out of fasion her hair style was.
I mean, you'de have thought if she was going to visit someone she would have made an effort.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
If that's all they have to complain about then your house is just fine.
Now if they were moaning about the cat's bowels......0 -
whew, thanks for your replies, I don't feel quite so neurotic & stupid now! I do feel as thought she was inspecting the contents rather than the house, I take the dog out and OH does all the viewings, as I don't want to know who buys the house (if we ever get that lucky!).0
