Incorrect CCJ on my credit file!

Right, so I called the court today who referred me to the solicitors who passed the judgement. The judgement was passed for buildings charges from the local council. The problem is, they don't have a first name on the judgement, just the initial. After a long conversation with the solicitor, he told me he would go back to their client (The Council) and try to find out what the guys first name was. I tried to tell him regardless that I wasn't a resident at this property at the time and that CCJ shouldn't apply to me. He understood where I was coming from and said obviously there are 2 innocent parties involved here with you being a 3rd party victim caught up in the mess and the real defendant having done a runner.
I called the land registry and they told me the owners of the property going back to 2002. Firstly was my landlord since late last year and then some other guy from 2002 - 2007 however, he doesn't share my surname but has the same initial.
If the solicitor can't get the full name details, I need to seek legal advice... I'm hoping he can get the information I need to hear!
This whole thing is very strange. Did the landlord or the previous inhabitants of the dwelling know your name etc before moving in? It looks as though they have used your name for these "building charges". Do you know what these are allegedly for?
On a practical level, I would be inclined to write to the solicitors and the building charges section of the council (keeping copies and proof of posting) pointing out that you only had a connexion with the property from whenever and anything prior to that is nothing to do with you. Ask them to investigate , write back to you and for them to set the judgment aside (if they do this it is a mere formality and you do not have to attend).
If no response within a reasonable time you should make the application to the court for judgment to be set aside.
Keep us informed please.

Up until January 2008 I never had any intention of moving into this property, only when my previous landlord gave me notice, I found this. The current landlord is a local friend. I have no contact with any previous tenants or landlords and they wouldn't have possibly known I was gonna move in 1.5 years later after the CCJ had been passed. Since they CCJ was apparently put on my file, I have moved in to my own place from my parents, signed up for different credit cards, mobile phones, home phones, broadband and never defaulted on a payment of any sort!
Is there anywhere I can get free or cheap legal advice?0 -
Hey Zoom,
not sure where you stay but i know in scotland there is the scottish legal aid board who cover all work like legal aid, criminal legal aid or something called advice and assistance, what happens is you go to the solicitor and they assess if you can receive it depending on your earnings it may be free thou sometimes you may have to make a small contirbution, they then take it from there, the link for there website is
http://www.slab.org.uk/
i am sure there is something similar for england and wales but not sure where it is the same but this link looks like it might help

Just another thought here.
Check with the court to see if the address where you are now is the address at which the cc summons was issued....is it not possible that the summons and judgment were issued against another address and have been updated as you now live at this address?
Many solicitors in England offer a free half hour consultation. Find names from CAB or just ring around.

Someone posted this on another forum I visit:
So, I gave Experien a call and they've agreed to contact the Registry Trust and work on having it removed because they agree that frankly put it can't be related to me because I didn't live at the address at the time! Takes 28 days though, but well, it's something!I had similar issues. You don't need to call anyone. Write a letter to credit company Experian and Equifax and explain how long you been living at the property, Also in the letter do make it clear that you don't have any financial relationship with people currently living at the property and didn not had any with the previous tenants/owners living there.
Ask them to amend their records with this information and you should be sorted.0
