Sensitive gold crown

Hi

I had a gold crown fitted about 3 weeks ago and it is slightly sensitive to hot and cold (particularly hot).

Is this normal with gold crowns, or should it have settled down by now?

If it doesn't improve then go back to your dentist, it may just be 'hyper sensitive at the moment!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Sensitive to hot more than cold can be a worrying sign.

I would pop back and just get it looked at, but it's not too unusual to still be sensitive so soon after.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    Hi

    Thanks for the replies.

I'll give it another week and then go back if needed.

I am just about to start medication to treat trigeminal neuralgia related to a pain in a tooth on the other side. I am a bit worried about starting that before the crown has settled as I thought it might 'mask' any problems with the crown??

Toothsmith - why is being sensitive to hot more of a worry?

    Thanks

A tooth sensitive to hot and not cold can often be the symptom of an irreversible pulpitis.

Basically, the nerve of the tooth is dying, and action will be needed.

This isn't always the case, but it's something we need to be on the llok out for.

If the tooth does have an irreversible pulpitis, then as the name suggests, there's nothing that can be done to keep the nerve alive, so it's not like if you go now the outcome will be different.

If it's only mild, then it's probably OK and will settle.

If it doesn't, or if it sems to get worse, then get back.
