The Saving starts Today

Following the lead of the £2 savers club and the 20p savers - I'm going for an all in savers!
When I do my weekly shopping, I budget £100 - thats for myself, hubby, our 2 kids, the cat and my mum-in-law (who we live with!). At the end of the week after I've given her our £30 rent money (we pay the electric and the council tax, she pays everything else), she adds up what her shopping comes to and refunds me what hers totals.
Before todady that would have gone straight into my purse and got spent - but not today! I cleaned out an old plastic cookie container, cut a hole in the top and sealed it up with tape. Adding my change from my purse (20ps downwards), I have approx £24 on my first day.:T
So my aim is that all spare change, money back from shopping and any wimming lottery money etc, will go in the savings box.
Anybody else do the same?

I try and pay for everything on my debit card as I find cash too easy to spend, but that sounds like a fab idea and I hope it goes well!
Good luck!Debt Free - done

I used to save all coppers and £2, 20ps and at the end of each month i would put as much as possible towards the bills, now i mainly use a debit card and save coppers. I think its a great idea and its always worth making everyone aware of it so they can add when possible. My little ones will pick up and add any change they find, even if its a penny from outside. Its lovely to watch it grow but i would advise that you allocate it a specific purpose so you don't get too tempted to open it for other reasons.
Good luck, may your money mountain grow.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Johnny Cash

I've got lots of tins around which are for different denominations or reasons, i can't wait till i can open the taramundi pot as it's only got pounds and 2 pounds, it's my contribution to honeymoon money.
I count up coppers every so often and use it to pay extra against what i 'owe' my sisters kids, it's money i would have just missed if i didn't put it in a tin.
I introduced my OH to savings coppers and he's given me over £10 since i convinced him to save them and not drop them.
Keep going it's amazing how it mounts up0 -
It's a great idea to save change. It just get frittered otherwise. I'm saving all my 20ps and 1p and 2ps for Christmas this year. As they grow, the bank changes them up and I either put them in my special christmas bank account or (will start to) put the money on an ASDA gift card for food purchases nearer the time. We need £80 on it and so far 20ps=£5.20, 1ps= £1. But it all helps.
Good luck

Ive got a Christmas post office account - I suppose it could go straight in there? I already collect savings stamps from tesco and morrisons as I shop at both. Im also trying to save my clubcard vouchers and my co-op dividend vouchers (co-op can be exchanged for cash at my local shop), so there's more there - the possibilities are endless!Capital One £1,593.22: Barclaycard £491.28: Lloyds TSB £3261.77: Aqua £1750: Simply Be £520 : Littlewoods £55.01 : Additions £657.01 :0
