Mums 50th Birthday present ideas?

Hello everyone!

Looking for a bit of help..

My poor mum has had a very rough few years thanks to my step-dad, and although they have now split, she is still having hassle.

Anyhow, it's her 50th at the end of June and I want to get her something really special to show her how much I love her.

Obviously in the past I would have got something very expensive, but I simply cannot afford it. I was thinking £50 ish.. ?

I am going to try and suprise her by going to visit her aswell, so she will love that :)

Any help for a gift would be great xx

Well, I suppose it depends on what she enjoys doing. Does she have a freeview box? Does she like things like massage, or having her hair done? - you could buy her a gift voucher for a beauty place. Or, if she's anything like me, just take her out for a nice meal or day out somewhere with all her family.

How about a bespoke hamper with lots of things in it, which you can wrap individually or not, as you wish.

You could give her some items to pamper herself with, lovely make-up, bath stuff etc. And/or you could make up little personalised items - photo albums or pretty frames with pics of close family members. Does she have any hobbies like gardening or cooking? You could add to or replace old items.

If you are going down the smellies/make-up route, you could try places like Debenhams, as some of the ranges do a "free" gift bag with purchases over £x, which will make your pressie that bit bigger for no added cost. Lancome and Estee Lauder or Elizabeth Arden often do these and I saw one the other day but I didn't stop to look at it.

I like the idea of the hamper! :)

She is into jewlery and I know she would like something that she can keep perhaps?

Thanks for the help so far :)

I got my Mum a spa half day from lastminute.com for her 60th, she absolutely loved it! It was about £60 but so worth it. We had a massage, private use of the spa and then a really posh 3 course lunch with champers :) I would also have a good root on Google at local spas to you, they are always putting on offers.

If she's had a hard time lately, maybe she'd like something for you to do together rather than something to keep? I don't know where you're based, but for my mum's 50th we went to the theatre. I was a student and hardly flush at the time so I can't imagine I spent more than £50. My mum loved it and still talks about it now, long after many other presents would have gone.

What about a digital photo frame? I've bought a couple of these for gifts before and its great if you load a memory card with photos as well so it is instant. From ebuyer I got the frame and a memory card for under £40.
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.

Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

I shouldn't really suggest this as I haven't tried it myself yet but for my DD's 21st birthday I'm hoping to make her a double bed quilt - with photos of her and her friends and BF, her brother dad and myself. Kodak make a cotton fabric with a paper backing to put in your home printer and print out the photos onto, it's washable too, then you can machine sew it or hand sew it. You could do one for mum with photos of children/grandchildren etc. Mmmm maybe a bit soppy idea but I liked it.
This isn't anything to do with me website - wish it was but something like this I was thinking http://www.weddingshowergifts.com/photo_quilts/index.shtml

WARNING - kodak uk website had a big problem this week, huge shock to my system:o :o:o so do be careful if you click on it and definately not when children are around.

I was 50 a couple of years back, and my daughters did a photo montage, they scanned and copied lots of odd pics, from when I was very young, right through to me being 50, including pics of me with the people that I love, including those I have lost. I love it.:)

they also bought me 50 little gifts (well some were bought, some were made). Some little personal things, like a small bottle of the perfume I like, and some nice facial samples. None of it cost a lot. Other things they included were hand made, and of course the funny bits, a magnifying glass, 'cos my eyes are going, some Tenna Lady pads, and a pension book cover!!...

It was a really special thing to do, it took them some time and they put a lot of thought into it, which I appreciate and if made me feel very loved. :)

    Hey

I don't know where you live, but my mum loves going to the theatre in London and you can buy cheap theatre tickets online try lastminute.com or
http://www.theatreticketsdirect.co.uk/ (you can also use quidco here) and nationalexpress so lots of tickets for £1 to London when you book online. As you want to go in June you could also take a picnic to eat in Hyde park or something?

    hope this helps xx
