Tesco Voucher Blocking

Can Tesco set up their tills to not accept certain bar codes?
I've used a paper cut of the Daily Mail book voucher on past occasions but today when scanned by the grip gun laser it didn't work for some reason. It scanned and beeped but didn't take the normal four pounds off. The SA said it wasn't accepted that time and said it happens from time to time with no explanation.

Just a case of "it does or it doesnt" just take it on the chin, till the next time.0

the tills are set to except vouchers off products sold by that store so maybe that book was not on your stores stock list therefore it couldn't except it0

Did use any other vouchers? Could just be that sa hadn't pressed subtotal. Some people see the glass half full, others see the glass half empty - the enlightened are simply grateful to have a glass0

This happened top me last week. I had a daily mail and two others. None were accepted by the till. Next time I went in they were accepted. Very strange.0

yes, if the SA hasnt pressed total then none will scan.
I have had it before, sometimes purely that they have forgotten and a few times when I could tell they had forgotten on purpose after seeing my wedge of coupons.
A quick reminder to them to press total usually does the trick!0 -
yes but remember the daily mail token is a nono and overuse will cause tesco to review their policy and stop accepting coupons.
It'd be so easy for to buy the mail and give loads of these in, but i prefer to look at the long term benefits of coupon use rather than make a few quick £4s now and tesco stop taking themI can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -

You may think that would be the case but it's not. For instance I used a Eukanuba coupon the other day in a store that doesn't stock it. But it was OK because Tesco as a whole do stock it and most stores will alllow one of each type of coupon, whether you buy the product or not.
Tesco tills - even Express stores and petrol stations - will accept any coupon for a product that any Tesco stock, unless the coupon has been blocked (e.g. an unacceptable coupon could be blocked, and also they set the tills to block most of their own-issued coupons unless you buy the product).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I had this happen last week with some couponet and the Red voucher - my usual happy scanner tried them and said - sorry these aren't working. Took them back in the next day - different cash desk - and they worked fine...and have done so since....so not sure if it was that particular desk or what.....so just try another day and keep the fingers crossed!0 -
Could somebody explain what these vouchers are a little better, please?:beer:0

The ones mentioned by the OP are book tokens printed in the Daily Mail sometimes, and which also appear on their website. They usually scan at Tesco but some of us have been told that our local stores will not accept them as Tesco don't get the money back on book tokens. I have been told this several times so haven't used one since 2007.
On a general note, Tesco will/should accept any money-off coupon (known as MOCs on MSE forums) for a product they sell, whether you buy the item or not.
If the coupon is in date and not specific to Tesco nor specific to any other store, then it's a general MOC that you should be able to use like cash. An example of one that is OK to use is the £1.50 that is in today's Daily Mail on page 48 (see the newspaper thread for full info on coupons each day).
There are loads of threads about this subject, worth having a search & a read, and maybe printing off some of the latest ones from the sticky on this board (the printable coupons sticky). Try them in your local Tesco, you should be allowed to use at least one at a time (maybe several!).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
