Exchanging @ Game/Gamestation

Just a top-tip for anyone exchanging anything at Game or Gamestation.
Although both these shops are owned by the same franchise, Gamestation offers a good exchange deal.
Go to both shops and get a price for your good(s) - If Game happen to have offered a better rate for any item, Gamestation will match the Game price and better it by £1.
Just found this out in-stor on Saturday whilst getting a new PS2 for my kiddie.
Hope this helps someone.

It's not just Game they price match. It is any local retailer, which is very handy if you have a cex store nearby as they give the best exchange rates by far.

www.cex.co.uk.
seriously? Even if your game is worth like £3 at CeX they'll give you £4 at Gamestation?
Do you need to take any sort of written proof of the exchange price CeX will give you to Gamestation?
cheers for that.0 -
when I done price match at Game the assistant went to Gamestation to check what price they had.
(this was for a new game)
and then they only matched the price (used game as we have a points card)0 -

Yep, it's correct - I've done it many a time at the Southampton Store.
I check the website before i go and note the exchange price.
When in the store i let them quote me the exchange price and then ask them to match cex.
They check the cex website for the price on a pc out the back, then match it and give me an extra quid.
It's normally about £5 - £7 a game more.
The reason for not exchanging at cex directly if they sell their games for a lot more, hence they give a better exchange price.
So by doing it this way you get the best exchange price for cheaper games.
I've bought games from Comet for £5, then exchanged them in Gamestation using the price match for £10 + £1. A very easy way to get 50% off games you want.
Most recently it was Advance Wars Dark Conflict which is £4.99 @ Comet (you can order the game instore for collection if they don't have a copy).
CEX have this down for £10 exchange, thus you get £11 credit @ Gamestation for a £5 spend........Result0 -
Game will give you a read out to show how much they will give you trade in, take this with you to Gamestation to prove the price. If the game i want to buy is cheaper in Game i then get Gamestaion to pricematch this.
Just lately Game seem to be giving much better trade in values than Gamestation so it is worth visiting both to get the best value for mney, for example i traded in 4 games recently, Gamestation quoted £35 where as Game a whopping £510 -
Hey guys, I work in GAME and can add to this.
If you do decide to beat the trade-in price, make sure you also take with you the price of the item you want to trade-in towards. For instance, Gamestation will trade-in a game for £1 more, but the game you want to buy is £5 more than GAME. Make sure you ask them to price match the new game as well, for extra value.
The lowest trade-in price at GAME is around 20p, excluding old old Fifa games which I tell people to give to charity because they are so worthless. On the whole, if you see a game for £1 in a sale (like DSG have been doing), you will be able to get double this in trade-in at GAME or even more at Gamestation (unless it is a football game over a year old).
Getting cash trade in for consoles is good at the moment. GAME used to give 1/3 less cash than trade in on consoles. At the moment, however, you just get £10 less. So £110 trade in for credit or £100 cash. This is useful because the music shops (Zavvi and HMV) have been doing some bloody good deals on PS3s and 360s around the GTA IV launch. The saving you get there will be a lot better than the £10 credit you'll lose at GAME or Gamestation, so get the cash trade-in and take the cash to the music shops instead.0 -
I once traded in Sega Worldwide Soccer 97 on the Sega Saturn for 5p at Gamestation!
I didn't realise until I had left the shop as I was trading in my whole system and countless games.
Good times."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
I have an original xbox with 10 games and 2 controllers. I've never traded anything in before and it's just gathering dust at the moment. We've only got a GAME in our town so wondered what the process was and how much I'm likely to get.
The console and controllers aren't boxed, will this make a difference?0 -
rex - being unboxed will make a difference unfortunately. Best thing to do is ring Game and ask them what you'll get over the phone for your console and games. I can imagine you'll get a lot more by selling it on eBay though.0
