Bankruptcy didn't really affect me negatively, anyone else found nothing happened?

Basically, I told my bank, but they let me keep and carry on using my visa debit card. (I had never been on trouble with them!) The OR didn't seem too interested in my affairs, and the only problem I had was when I tried to get a contract phone. So my husband put it in his name.

Granted, I haven't tried to get credit (and don't want to either!) but for several years before going BR I was on a payment plan with the CCCS so I wasn't using credit anyway. So I can honestly say I barely noticed being BR, except for the relief of not having to worry about repayments any more!

Is this fairly typical? I expected it to be like some sort of apocalypse... But it's been fine!

  • I have found it to be better is most ways -

The hardest thing is we have no "fall back" if anything unexpected happens that cost money as our budget is soooo tight. However, once my youngest starts school (another year yet) I can look for emplyment and really improve our situation.

I lost my job after going BR due to boss being a sexist pig - we would have been in trouble had I not gone BR already. Like you devon, things will be tight til I get work again but am not far off having baby #2 so won't be for a while!

Max - how long does the OR take an interest for? Surely once you're discharged that's it, isn't it?

Untill your discharged your oblidged to inform the OR of ANY change in circumstances (financial etc) Once your discharged pretty much yeah...the OR would have no interest

    Cheers phil.

My OR was so hands off I actually forgot to tell him I lost my job. I asked him if I needed to tell him if I bought a new car and he didn't seem too bothered. And he never returned my calls to ask whether the tax that wasn't being taken off my wages was supposed to be given to him instead.

And I'm discharged now, so I guess it's all good!

Hopefully this will be quite comforting to anyone worrying about it...

I also havn't seemed to suffer too badly yet.. I get letters from OR now and then asking for info, but that's it really..

Hopefully automatic discharge will come around in December and I will be able to really put it behind me.. :)
