Sainsburys raincheck voucher

I've been carrying a Sainsburys raincheck voucher around for about 4 weeks - waiting for the item I wanted to appear in the store. (This was a BOGOF for Ame at £1.99 per bottle - none in stock when advertised on the shelf).
Saw the bottles were in today, so took 2 and presented the voucher at the check out. I was then told that the voucher had expired.
Apparently, I should have presented the voucher on the day I obtained it and got £1.99 off my other shopping that day. At least, that's what the check out lady and the supervisor both said.
Anyway, I did get 2 for 1 today (i.e. £1.99 off my shopping) - but was told that I need to hand any future raincheck coupons over on the same day - when they will be refunded against any other items I buy.
Surely, this cannot be correct? Otherwise, all we would have to do is find special offer items that aren't on the shelves and can't be found in stock at the store? Then we could just reduce the total cost of our spend by all the raincheck vouchers we can collect.

I was told Tesco's also do a rain check voucher, but no one was able to answer me recently when they had run out of their onions rings on offer recently.I asked several staff & they just looked at me like I had two heads! Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0

I didn't know Sainsburys still did it - until I read it last month on this website.
Steps to follow:
1. You need to find a special offer (e.g. BOGOF, 3 for 2 etc) that isn't a special purcahse and/or limited stocks / end of season sale.
2. Make sure it's something you want and find an assistant who doesn't look too busy (not always possible, I know).
3. Ask if they have any more stock in the back - if they do, you've got your bargain.
4. If no stocks in the back, ask for a raincheck voucher. Don't be put off if they haven't heard of one - just explain what they are and, if necessary, ask for a supervisor or someone else until you get a memeber of staff who knows what you mean.
It does take patience and time - so not one to do if you have children and/or embarrassed partner with you.
Haven't tried Tescos for a few months, but I assume they still do them.
Used them a lot about 10-15 years ago when Safeway in particular publicised them and Sainsburys followed suit. No local Asda or Morrisons then - but I aim to test out these when I get a chance.0 -
asked several staff & they just looked at me like I had two heads"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

this is right. the idea is you can get a similar item on the same offer using this voucher.0

Found this out today - on large bottles of extra virgin olive oil
Asked for a raincheck voucher in Sainsburys - assistant told me she could write me one but it wouldn't be much good to me!
She said it would mean I could buy the same product from another manufacturer or in another size for the offer price. However, all the other items were cheaper, so I would gain nothing.
Not much point in having the offer then, is there? :rolleyes:0 -
i tried this, after reading it here. went to customer services, but no vouchers available, so she gave it to me for 1/2 price.....i bought the item first, then went to cs with item and receipt.......and cash was handed to me with a big apology...0

Sorry don't understand. You went to CS for voucher because the item wans't available but they let you buy the item for 1/2 price.
I thought these vouchers were for when the items weren't available.
I'm confused lol.0 -
yes, if it's if bogof, and there is no gof part....ie only one on the shelf, you can go and ask to have the only one at half price.
this is if they have no vouchers to give you for a free one next time
sorry edit, just re read the thread. this was when it was bogof and only one on the shelf. not when it was bogof and there were none.0 -

In Sainsbury's this week - they had buy two packs for reduced price, only one pack on the shelf - customer service desk sold me the one pack for half of the special offer price, I was happy with this as really I only needed one pack - no mention of a rain check voucher.0
