I used to get a lot of these emails when I sold things through my local advertising paper. The ads also went onto the web site.

The most common scam is for them to suddenly find out "their brother in London" is desperately short of cash. So can they send you a cheque which will include a couple hundred pounds more, and can you send this extra to their brother in cash as soon as you receive the cheque.

    Obviously the cheque bounces.

The one thing that marks these scams is they never know what you are selling, they just refer to it as a "your lovely item", or something similar.

This is because the software they use can't pick out what you are selling, it can only send you a generic email.

Always beware of people wanting to buy your item when they don't know what it is or how much it costs.

Sounds a bit like the old 419 scam, have Nigerians got nowt better to do than try and scam the white man?
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

thanx if I am going to sell this do you think paypal and postal order is a safe option if they are really interested then that shouldn,t be a problem?also it would be acceptable you think to only send on receipt of payment like on ebay but then again how do they know I,m not a scammer?(Im not )but am really disappointed just had another offer which coincedently came as soon as I had told the doctor from missouri(yeah right)that I would only take payment via paypal for overseas buyers. This buyer was offering u.k cheque but I think it was from same person dodgy as might complain to viva street they must have multiple email.

You are not going to sell it, well not to them anyway!

This is a scam, the best thing to do is ignore it.

The reason why you got the second email was because you took the bait for the first one.

Now comes the adding more to the cheque and can you send it to my brother in London who needs cash tomorrow.

Confuse them by emailing showing great enthusiasm, asking which of your items they require..

I used to tell them the item would cost £18,000,000 including postage and they reply saying it was a great price.
