For those who are interesting in buying some of their own, I just found them on Lakeland's website:

Also, you can get 4% Quidco cashback shopping with Lakeland online:

Umm, I may be missing the point completely here  , but for years now I've been putting the fruit & veg into my basket/trolley loose.

When I get to the conveyor belt I just group all the fruit & veg up so that the checkout girl isn't weighing 5 onions separately etc (which I understand could be totally annoying for them!).

I've never understood why people are obsessed with putting their fruit & veg into the bags at the shops only to take them out when they get home.

Anyway there's my twopennys worth ;)

I use the end of the trolley where there's a separate bit to put all my fruit & veg in and pack it in a separate bag to all the other shopping.

I don't think that I've ever bruised any fruit or veg doing this, admitedly I don't throw it into the trolley, but I think it would bruise then bag or no bag ;)

I'm not trying to tell you you're wrong by buying these bags, far from it, each to their own I say!

When I've finished off all the zillion plastic carriers I have stored up, I'll just take my cloth bags with me. Some are strong jute, like the Sainsbury bags, and don't fold small, but others like the Co-op cloth bags can fold neatly. I'll carry a few of those, for heavy items, for light items, and that will be it. They last for years and are washable. :)

Thanks to OP for this post - I take a shopping bag to the veg stall at the Farmers' Market and my purchases go straight into it but if I use the local greengrocers then I need a little plasic bag for apples etc (citus fruit is ok loose) because otherwise they roll around in the wire basket and get damaged. Plus, it will be useful to have something to hold smaller items such as fruit together so that when I pack them into a safe place in my shopping bag they stay put! And it is easier for the assistant to weigh some things if they are contained. the little bags don't look as though they weigh much, so hopefully will not add to the cost!

they arrived today, they are 19 3/4 by 27 1/2 inches and are similar to the net used for favour bags, they are very light weight and washable.

well ive used them and they are not worth it ! theres very little stretch so you cant really get much in ! but they do come in handy for washing trainers in the washing machine ! well back to the drawing board.

Thanks ChrissyG for bringing these to my attention. Too temping not to try myself and I think they're great. We're a family of 5 and I have no probs filling them up with ample pots, apples etc. I would thoroughly recommend them and have been looking for greener solution for ages.
